Well I was surfing the internet awhile back looking at DW stuff when I found this very gun-

Image Enlarger

Image Enlarger

Its of course a Dan Wesson in the PPC/Action cup version...and as I read more about it, I found out they were about impossible to find...so having a machine shop, and making the DW wrenches, why not make them? (The PPC shrouds)

Now here's where I need your help. Of course me being a DW newbie, I'm far from an expert, so what do you guys want in these shrouds? What is the history behind the PPC/Action cup? What is the purpose for the removeable weight that's fastened to the bottom by the 3 screws? How many weights were originally offered?  What do you want for sights? Can any one offer any dimensions off an original?

Thanks so much for any input!!!!

In all the pictures I have seen, there has only been the one add-on weight…doesnt mean there were not more, or different sizes.

The sight rail on the PPC was made by Aristocrat, who still appear to be in business.

http://www.aristocratproducts&.....index.html

The Weaver rail on my AC seems to be unique (to the AC).  But if your designing your own PPC type shroud,  any Weaver or M1913 rail of your choosing would work.

The length of the AC shroud is the same as any 6″ shroud on the small frame revolvers.  I'll get the other dimensions and post them.

Eric, I don't know enough about the history of PPC to offer any valuable input…but…man, would I love to have one of those shrouds!Laugh  I also like that Aristocrat style sight rail, it looks right at home with that big 'ol shroud!   UziRange Time

*EDIT* I just got thinking...that big 'ol slab side would sure look good with a DWF logo emblazoned on it! 😀

Hey Wayne, Good deal, thanks for chiming in! I've heard you're the only one here known to have a PPC! Looking forward to seeing what the other dimensions are. That's a good thing with the 6" barrel, as it would allow one with that existing length barrel to just buy the shroud.

The thing with the Aristocrat sight is that is rather expensive. (About $200) Hmmm...

Shoot, lol! 😀 (For the uninformed, shoot responded to my very first post that he wanted a PPC shroud) Just who's going to be first on the list? Laugh

CF, Hopefully we can get a fix going for you, me, and shoot. Anyone else want to join the club? rofl

When you say Aristocrat style, is there someone else that made a sight similar to Aristocrat?

I wouldn't mind a full length weaver rail on top.  Even if it was a drill / tap job, you can buy any length of weaver rail you want and cut it to length.

Something that might be of interest to those whom hunt with revolvers, is a shroud design with machined on (in) scope mounts, i.e. Weaver or M1913 (picatinny).

The other one I can think of is a light weight snubby shroud.  Aluminum is easy to machine (Fortal is very strong).  Titanium is nice, exotic and super light but hard on the tooling.

Coud you imangine a 445 Supermag with a 4" titanium shroud Jaw DroppingroflScrewy

Not that I know of. I just meant it more like I haven't seen that style elsewhere. It looks kinda mean, like the rest of the gun!Cool

I knew this link would come in handy some day... http://www.deactivated-guns.co.uk/detail/Dan_wesson.htm

I tried to buy the gun a long time ago--no response.  As you can see in the pics they demilled it by drilling the firing pin hole oversize (I could fix it).  I believe the rest of the gun is intact.  For those of you who don't know, there is a PPC shroud and an action cup shroud.

Back when I bought the Action Cup, I also looked around for a PPC.  I found a gun dealer in Germany that had 2 new PPC revolvers, but sadly they would not ship them to the US Cry.  When I checked about 6 months later, this German dealer had sold both of'em. Frown

I would be interested in a PPC shroud as well.  I have a couple questions though as silly as they may sound.  Is the PPC shroud design patent still in effect?  If so,  wouldn't machining these shrouds potentially result in a patent infringement?

Hey guys, Do my eyes deceive me or is the top strap on this revolver different. I don't see any where a sight was supposed to be, it just looks flat. Was this a special run of frames or am I just nuts. ( OK, I know I'm nuts, but was it a special frame?)

Nope, Like I said there were PPC shrouds and action cup shrouds--both slightly different.  There were also DA only (bobbed) hammers, as well as regulaer hammers.

Guys, this is slightly off topic so I'll take the whipping now... Whipping

I think if we could get a Vented Heavy shroud with slots and an integrated weaver mount for quick detach rings would be very cool!

To get back on topic I like the auction cup shroud over the PPC s

Image Enlarger

I also think it would be nice if the line where the shroud meets the frame flowed together a little better.

I'll second that Laugh (no whipping please)... I have a few ideas for shrouds--and other itemsWink, some of which I've bounced off EWK already.  The only reason I ever wanted a PPC style shroud was so I could put a full length weaver on it.

I agree, having it match the gun frame a little closer at the rear would be great.Worship

Here are some dimensions of my Action Cup shroud.

Overall length 5.3230"

Overall width .90000"

Width of narrow section at rear .7950"

Length of narrow section at rear .6500"

Overall height 1.8260"

Height without weight 1.5550"

The radius of the top and bottom are within a few hundredths of the radius of a US 25 cent piece (US quarter; 2 bits).

I'll attempt some detailed pictures and get them posted.
