Hello all,
Happy Birthday to me, It took 65 years to aquire my 1911 Dan Wesson.
I'm in the process of aquiring a PMGD (Guardian Duce) in 45. Early serial number, I think it was built in 2000. Stainless frame and Blue slide. The pistol is suppose to have a bunch of high end innerds. I hear Ed brown and Chip McCormick parts where used a lot back then. Everything is suppose to match grade. No idea how much it has been shot, I talked to the seller and he claims it was supposed to be a safe dweller from an older guy who has quite a few guns including several 45's that he has done business with for years.
I wanted a commander size, which it is. I personally like the stainless frame verus the aluminum. Steve CT got me looking after I saw his PM1S and the same pistol he wanted to buy that was on gunbroker.
Any comments from you guys, good, bad, watch out for items.
I'll send pic's when the gun comes in. Its going to my gunsmith to be completely checked out before it gets home.
I'm looking forward to your comments.

Thank you all for the Birthday sentiment.
I researched it and found out it had been for sale on Gun broker and America's guns classified since September 2011. The original ad was asking 968.00.
How do you guys think it would look with a chain link front strap and main spring housing to cover up that nasty stippling on the front strap? I'm going to start out with ,as Steve CT suggested, a pachmyer 3 fingered grip and then see about the checkering.

I'm glad you got that one, I really believe there is a very high potential for that to be a great gun.
First off, I'd shoot it and validate accuracy and function. Two "caveats":
1) Loctite the interchangeable front DW sight setscrew. The DW interchangeable front sight does not lend itself to the 1911 easily, the cycling of the slide WILL loosen the front sight setscrew (and FYI-the EWK Fiber Optic is a great upgrade here)
2) The two piece Full Length Guide Rod (I think yours has one) needs to be kept tightened, maybe secured with Locktite. I'm working now to understand the two piece FLGR, how it works, and maybe replacing it.
Once you know you have a shooter, then fix the stippling.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Steve,
Have you actually tried the EWK front sight on your PM1S ? Eric says it won't work on it? That's exactly what I had in mind and I have one right now.
Please let me know about your findings on the FLGR.
Driving me nuts waiting for that thing to get in to my FFL. Then my Gun Smith is gonna go through it from stem to stern and run some rounds through it.
My wife goes nuts when I buy a used gun, In 1994, I lost a right leg to the hip from a defective 7mm mag that was in a gun case, in my truck, that had a 159 grain nosler in it, that was supposed to be buried in the mag and went off (defective trigger over travel spring) and 2 surgeries later I had one leg. So from then on, everything used gets checked out by a gunsmith first.

I actually have the Dan Wesson fiber optic, which I think was the basis for Eric's fiber optic. Does he know that you have one of the very uncommon DW 1911's that accept the DW Revolver interchangeable front sights? Mine will accept any DW front sight I have.

Steve,
Got the Guardian in today, checked out fine by gunsmith. installed the EWK front sight, had to grind the bottom off a little bit, it hit the barrel. After grinding and touching up the blueing, it fit like a glove. My gunsmith freaked out, said he had never seen that before. He at first said no way....
Packmayer signature grip hid every bit of the nasty stipling on front strap. Changed out the old nasty grip screws with new stainless grip screws.
We shot about 6 rounds after checking the function and cleaning and oiling.
Function was flawless with 230 grain fmj winchesters.
I'll send the a new picture with the EWK sight and new grips. as soon as I get a chance.
Have you shot any Hornaday 185 grain defence loads out of the PM1S?

Mostly all I've shot are WWB/range ammo FMJ's. A shooting buddy shared some of his 185 gr JHP reloads that were dead on, and I played around with several brands of "defense" ammo a few years ago, but this is not my carry or HD gun.
I'm glad this gun is looking like it will work out for you. Honestly, if I'd had the money the first time I saw it, it would not be yours today, but good for you. I was pretty sure the Pachy Signature would cover up that stippling, my guess is you have an accurate, rock solid, DW 1911, and you know what?
Life does not get much better than that, my Friend.

Yep, you are right on the nose, including shipping, sight, grip with new wilson stainless grip screws, transfer and gunsmith. He did a detailed disassembly, cleaning, lube and Installed the sight and grip. I was pleased to see the main spring housing was checkered. It looked like bead blasted on the picture on gun broker. Only complaint was it had a mickey mouse magazine. I ordered 2 wilson combat stainless magazines for her, now got to wait on them. The guys at the gun range where drooling over the pistol after we finished.
I'm setting up my targets in the back yard and going to shoot about 200 rounds this weekend.
I appreciate all you help on this and I am glad I bit the bullet on the weapon.
BUT,Your so right about one that got away. I'll do this, if I ever deside to sell her, I'll contact you first!
She will always have good care and maintainence.
I am now a proud Dan Wesson 1911 owner!!

You have a real great shooter there. Mine is a much older, pre-CZ that is so consistently accurate it's intimidating.
Here she is just gettin' all dressed up for a day of fun.
A guy I shoot with has a DW CCO, when we go to the range, we just swap guns for 50 rounds or so, when we swap back, we're both just grinning and shaking our heads.
