I have a chance to pick up a 2004 Razorback in used condition; still in the box with paperwork, but it is used (shooter grade). Has some dings below the slide release (Ugly)
I'm thinking I can get it for $800– I think this is a good deal for a pre CZ Dan wesson 1911.
has ugly factory pachmayr grips on it, but that is a quick fix.
What say ye experts? Should I go for it? I don't own anything in 10mm–no brass, no dies…

So what you want is validation to by a more stuff?
Of course you gotta do it!
I think any DW 1911 at $800 is probably a good deal. I've heard some criticism about 10mm in 1911's, with case blowouts in high power loads due to the case not being fully supported, but I don't know if that's valid or not.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

What are Brothers for?
To point the finger at when wifey ask what made you think you could
spend 8 Benjamin's and probably a couple more on accessories, he can
say all the fella's down on the forum said I'd be a fool for passing it up
and I can make at least double my money back any day of the week.
Or something like that....

I've had a couple case ruptures but not due to the 10mm or 1911 design.
No the barrel ramp of the 1911 barrel is not fully supported but it is
not cut as much as the old Glock design either. The 1911 ramp
is fully capable of handling maximum loads without a problem.
In fact I had some custom loads built with double star brass and well
over 1400 fps with 180 grn bullet's. this was a max pressure load that
did not even show a hint of case buldge or "smiley". This load was
not accurate nor enjoyable to shoot at all for me and I like shooting
upper to hot stuff.
My failures were due to weak brass from factory Double Tap ammo
determined by Colt who sent me six fired rounds of Federal brass that were
the proof loads they ran through my gun before they sent it back
and they showed no signs of any "smileys"
Not sure what the industry standard on 10mm proof loads are but
I have read most others are time and a half of SAMMI maximums.
The guy I have build Custom loads only builds 10mm ammo with new
Double Star brass, he says it has the thickest walls and uses it exclusivley.
Of course going above pressure limits could bulge any brass.

Well, you guys gave my arm that final twist ... LOL, like I needed any help !!!
I didn't swing quite the deal I wanted--$900 out the door with a box of ammo for it...
I'll try to have her cleaned up and take some calender pics, but for right now these will have to do....
This 1911 has a trigger in ounces... I need to tighten it up a little bit... Only came with one mag, so I'll be on the hunt for another one.
Not sure what grips I'm going to get for it--would love to find a set of stock DW's for it cheap.

Well, she's all stripped clean, lubed up and ready to shoot ...
I pulled the stock DW wood grips off my blue Patriot 45 and put them on the RZ... MUCH BETTER !!! Too late to take any pics tonight, but I'll get some posted up tomorrow. Now I have to find some nice wood grips.
Steve--serial number data will be coming your way.
COOL FACT--- Guess who the cartridge collectors name is on the envelope...?
Bob Serva himself... with his signature right underneath. Dated 7/28/04

That is really cool! I wonder if he just wanted to get out of the office that day & go pull some triggers, or if he test fired these guns on a regular basis?
The gun does look really good, way to go!
