Wait a second...did the grip color change toward the end there, or should I whip out the 'ol beatin' stick again??
hehe
According to that Guns & Ammo cover you got jipped on the extra engraving...bummer.
Just giving you crap Mox, that's a really cool Commemorative 1911 you've got there. The display case, cool G&A magazine and the printed reminder that the French owe their current existance to US is just icing on the cake!
I assume it's unfired, right?

It was unfired until today. Ran about 50 rounds through it. And yes, I pulled the original grips off to protect and preserve them. Replaced with original Colt rubber with colt horse on hind legs. They feel nicer too.

You are da man! I bet it loves finally doing what it was born to do.
If it shoots anything like my DW 1911, I bet it feels great.

A dear friend is a basement FFL. I was over there to pick up something else when I saw it in his safe. I told him I an interested in a 1911, and he offered it up. This is the story. A local collector passed away (I don't know who) and the estate was being settled. All the guns were gone when my friend (the FFL) became acquainted with the family. As the family was preparing to sell the house, an inspection revealed this jewel hidden in the attic under the insulation. They brought it to my friend (the FFL) who bought it and flipped it to me. I also bought his 744 about 2 years ago, and he had a tear in his eye when I took it.
As a side note, this FFL just had his 2nd heart attach, and he is considering reducing his stock of firearms. He doesn't have any kids to leave them to. He mentioned that a list will be sent to me and others when he finally gets it together.

What a relief, I thought I was going to have to beat you up for buying a safe queen. Smart choice in preserving the grips, but somehow the thought of a Chateau Thierry Commemerative not getting shot seemed very wrong.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Cool, a 70 year commemorative.
I'm surprised there haven't been many 100 year commemorative 1911's popping up out there, or am I just blind?

Ooooo blind??? In the beginning January there was a few every week. Seems to be slowing down. And they are not even polished, and not that dark royal blue. Probably a Series 80 too. Nothing special really. So, why would one buy such a firearm??? I don't get it???

We actually do see some pretty nice Colt's in this area, since it's based in Hartford. Here's a favorite sight to see driving through the city.

The Rampant Colt up top is especially beautiful

Nice 1911's Mox.
I have spent 4 seperate weeks in Farmington, CT for work. The last week I was there I wanted to go see the rampant colt but I couldn't find it. There was only a small window of daylight left after I got out of the shop. I did find what looked to be a newer Colt plant in Hartford.
I didn't discover the DWF until a few weeks later or I would have asked the CT guys for where to look.
