Hey everyone, new to the forum... I had a newbie question about 1911s. I've been shooting for a long time but just purchased my first 1911 (Specialist Commander in SS). I love the gun, the fit and finish is every bit as nice as advertised. The question I have is about wear or polish marks on the frame around the moving parts such as where the thumb safety moves on the frame and the slide stop lever pivots up and down on the frame. The marks are very minor (again more like polish marks), especially considering the pistol is SS and not the dark duty finish. I was curious if these types of marks occur regardless of whether it's high end 1911 or not? Thanks for any feedback.

No, it does happen now and again. As well as these guns are fit they still aren't semi/full custom built, so there can be a little variations in the tolerances. Look at where the wear is on the frame and look to the opposing side of the moving part. Sometimes there can be a burr or an area that could be relieved some. Lightly file with a finishing file to remove the corresponding high spot, go easy do a little at a time and reassemble and check. I usually relieve the edges on these parts for that reason. I think there are a few threads here or at 1911forum.com that address refinishing small areas of brushed stainless (where your wear marks are). Practice on any spare parts/scrap piece stainless first if you haven't done any kind of metalworking. This way you will avoid marking the side of the parts that show.
