The Cabela's circular came in the mail today. Selected offerings:

1) Taurus PT1911 in SS with rosewood grips, fixed sights (a good pistol, I've owned one) $649

2) Springfield XDM .45 ACP BI-TONE (includes XD gear system) $749

3) Dan Wesson RZ10 Sportsman 10mm SS adjustable rear, fiber optic front, w/2 mags $1099

Wait, Taurus .45 ACP SS or DW 10mm SS for $370 more??? HUH!

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I think the Taurus vs the DW is like $450 , plus add the extra sales tax on $450 and

that would be $25 and now you on your way to being able to buy another Taurus.

The Dan Wesson's resale value is likely to remain closer to it's new price.

IMHO, the main drawback is 10mm.  The ammo is expensive and can be difficult to find.

You are right on the math, but I swapped my Taurus + cash for my DW and have never regretted it for a second. PT 1911 was a pretty fair pistol, and a great entry level 1911 for me, but it's no DW. I've had my son's PT 1911 and his Kimber for over a year, and have put less than 50 rounds through them the whole time, the DW so outclasses them. When we shoot together HE wants to bring the DW.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
