The Good:

I was very pleased with my DW Commander's accuracy at the range today.  My longest shot was from 25 yds with the closest at around 7yds.  This gun is dead on! I've had my 9mm Berreta 92FS for 15+ years and I'm already a better shot with my DW.

The Bad:

The gun was disassembled and lubed with DW's oil the night before my range visit.

I used a total of 300 rounds of Winchester 230gr FMJ target ammo.

The 1st 100 rounds went pretty much trouble free with one jam. I was using 3 new Chip McCormick mags (2-8 rnds, 1-10 rnds) and left the factory DW mags in the case.

The 2nd 100 rounds became more problematic and the jams became more frequent. I started to add tape to the mags that had issues in order to identify a possible faulty magazine. By the end of those 100 rounds, I had tape on all of them.

The last 100 rounds were pretty bad. I would have at least one or two jams per magazine.  I went to one of the factory DW magazines and it was even worse with 3 jams out of 8 rounds.

I wanted to try some other brand of ammo to see if the jamming issue would go away, but the range was out of .45ACP rounds.

I brought the DW oil with me and placed a few drops on the barrel and slide to keep the parts well lubricated but noticed no improvement during the testing.

I'm going to clean the gun very well and try another range visit before hitting the panic button and sending the gun back to DW.  I will also try to purchase some other brands of ammo.

Although the gun shoots very well, I do feel that the experience left me a bit disappointed considering how much this gun cost.  Hopefully, it's nothing serious and can be easily repaired.

I'm trying to attach a pic.  The bottom edge of the spent casing appears to get caught on the front edge of the new bullet's brass.

My suggestion is email Keith at CZ Dan Wesson with your story and ask his advice.  He'll likely ask to have it returend.

My guess is extractor problem. Since the problem started well into your session, maybe some crud got caught up in that area of the slide. Also, any roughness in the chamber that got may have gotten dirty as you shot more?

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Supermagfan,

Thanks for the contact.

I left a message for the DW warranty/repair dept. this morning and got a call from Keith.  He thinks it might be an extractor issue since the problem continued to get worse and enough rounds went through the gun for "break in".

I plan to check the gun thoroughly when I clean up the pistol tonight and get back to him.

Another thought- if its not obviously the extractor: bend the lips in on the mags just a bit.  That will keep the first round  lower in the column and thereby assist the spent case to clear (based on your pic).  Additionally, I use grease on sliding parts, oil on rotating parts FWIW.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Well, no obvious issues like a broken or unusually worn extractor during cleaning so the slide and barrel are being sent to Keith.  I'll keep you posted on how it all turns out.

Ron, thanks for the advice.  If the problem continues after it comes back from service, I can give your suggestion a try.
