Just picked up my 1st Dan Wesson .
2020 N.I.B. Dan Wesson Specialist 5" 10mm Black
Question 1 :
There was no Registration Card in the case and on the Dan Wesson web pageI do not see a Registration Page .
Am I missing something or is registration at purchase time not necessary ?
Question 2 :
re: The BLACK Service Finish
I have been using BALLISTOL for 42 years .
Does anyone know is BALLISTOL presents a problem with the Dan Wesson BLACK Service Finish ?
Thank You

Hey welcome to the DW forum!
Question 1- no there are no registration cards or online registration, they know it is sold to you via ATF when it is transferred to you.
Question 2- I have never used Ballistol on my duty treat guns, I have 'heard/read' others that have not had problems using Ballistol. But, if you do use it and have problems DW will not refinish the pistol under warranty if you do not follow their recommended products. Besides Kroil is useful for many jobs around the house anyways, and an 8oz can will last forever. I have personally used Weapon Sheild (recommended) and Lucas Extreme gun oil for lubrication with no ill effects. I personally like these two oils as they cling to the parts and don't thin out and run off when heated up.

This is incorrect - ATF does not know who the gun was sold to. The dealer keeps and maintains the record of transfer and it is not reported back to ATF or the manufacturer. A trace can be conducted from the manufacturer, to the dealer, to the purchaser but it is a manual process and the records are kept locally at the manufacturer or dealer. If the manufacturer or dealer cease business, the records are turned in to ATF and they are physically stored there to perform any trace if necessary. If the firearm is resold again privately, the ability to trace is lost unless each private seller keeps a record of the sale. That is why it is very important for a private seller to keep a record of all firearms sold or disposed, especially if they were purchased new from a dealer. If you purchase a new firearm (from a dealer) and resell it privately, and it is subsequently used in a crime, the trace will come back to you. There is no central database of sales / transfers maintained by ATF.
So back to the original question - there is no registration so be sure to keep the bill of sale for warranty claims. If you do need warranty service, refer to the terms in the printed manual and start the process online here >> https://danwessonfirearms.com/support/warranty/

Sorry did not know that about the ATF. But I have sent my Guardian back to DW after I first bought it for a high POI and they took it in under warranty with no documentation. That's why I figured the ATF/some bureau had a record. I know our state knows the registered gun/person as the LGS tells me to keep pic of the transfer paper on my phone because it takes up to two years to get in the system. Since if you get in a legal situation with the pistol it is advantageous to have the paperwork on the gun handy. Just relaying what I've been told by a few gun shop owners???

No problem...I don't mean to be critical but just wanted to inform that there is no tracking registry of firearm ownership on a federal level. While a gun can be traced through the manufacturer and dealer sales, there is no registry of who owns what guns. States that have strict permitting systems in place may take it further and may have a registry for permitted firearms (NY for one). If there is any interest or desire to know the state and federal regulations, I encourage anyone to refer to the ATF website at https://www.atf.gov/firearms . Here you can find all the state laws for all 50 states, The CFR, NFA Act, and the reference guide for Federal Regulations pertaining to firearms.
