I just received my Specialist 1911 back from warranty work. The rust spots seem to have been corrected, at least on the outside. The unsightly machine marks on 1913 the rail remain. Apparently they do not have a gunsmith on staff who can do hand finishing work, or they are unwilling to put in the time and effort. I am very disappointed and will be shopping for a replacement 1911 with a higher level of fit and finish. These flaws would be unacceptable on a Taurus which costs 1/2 as much. I am totally disillusioned about Dan Wesson firearms. Brian.

Sorry about your unfortunate experience with DW warranty work. If you're not satisfied and the gun is relatively new, don't give up. Call them back and demand a fix or a new gun...simple as that.
As far as 1911s go, I have a Ruger SR1911 which is awesome in every respect. I would put it up against any gun manufactured today.

Off Topic, but if I was in the market for a reasonably priced 1911 (ie- anything under $1000), it would be the SR1911, probably the Commander, in a heartbeat
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Sorry you have had such a bad experience with DW service. All of my experiences with them have been excellent.
Send it back and tell Keith why you're unhappy.
He'll fix it, I can almost guarantee it; at least that has been my experience.
Most of us make mistakes; try giving them another chance.

The 1911 forum has a few folks who have gotten new DW 1911's with machining marks and were dissatisfied. Kieth took care of most of them. I must say that all of my Dan Wesson 1911's are perfect in fit, finish, and craftsmanship. I realize there are always a few bad examples that slip through, but don't judge the brand by that few, judge it by the vast majority of quality guns.
BTW your gun wasn't marked as a blem was it? It would have an upside down "Y" after the serial number. Just wondering.
Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

I agree. If I were in the market for a non-Dan 1911, I would not rule out one of the Taurus models.
I think i have completely driven this bus off Off Topic!

The Specialist is not a blem. It was a brand new gun at Osage County Guns on gunbroker. I will probably replace it with a Les Baer, Wilson, or Volkmann. I will let this Wesson go along with a nice Kimber Clackamas and whatever else needed to get into something really nice. I was fooled into thinking Wesson was a top tier type of gun. Keith is the one who stated that machine marks around the rail are unavoidable. I do not think they would fix it if I sent back again. I can see if they will email me another return authorization. I had a problem with a Franchi once and they sent me a brand new Benelli Montefeltro in its place because the Franchi model was no longer being made. That is customer service.
