I am looking to possibly purchase a full size wesson bobtail in 38 super.
1. Does anyone know the value of these in 96%+ with box and papers?
Sounds like very few were made before CZ made the acquisition. I have cbobs in 10mm, 45 and the wesson guardian in 9 so this would be a cool addition even though it is not a commander size.
2. I thought most of the "pre-cbobs" were patriots with external extractors, does anyone have info on these full size 38 super bobtails with an internal extractor from pre-CZ days?
Thanks

Well I don't have much info but I thought you deserved a response. First I suspect 38 supers were probably special order only, as I have only ever heard of one or two in existence. Don't believe I have seen a bobbed 5 inch either but I am mostly a wheel gun guy even though I do own a CBOB and love it. Best I can do on a value is say look at the auction sites and realise they generally run a little strong. Otherwise I will just say to the . Hopefully someone else with more savvy on the brass flinger models will chime in.

I would ask if it has a special ser# or not, if it's an actual Dan Wesson custom order it will most likely have a special ser# of some kind. As far as I know DW has never done a 38 Super, but I would have check to see. As for Bobtail on 5" frame that too would be a special order, and has never been a standard offering.
As per the value if a NRA 96% with box and papers to right person would bring $1000 to $1200 would be my guess, there is probably some collectors out their that would pay $1500 to $1800 for it if a Bob Serva gun. Not sure why, but that's people for you.
I have a special custom order 5" RZ 10mm bobtail being finished up at present with front fiber optic sight and rear target sight and it will carry a requested special ser# to boot. Keith is the one building the gun and I have even asked about a possible future 38 Super, but he doesn't see there being one as a one off custom since no current idea of 38 Super intertained by CZ.
The 10mm is coming back for next year as currently planned, but that could change if demand rises. Such as by custom orders like mine, but I'm sure they will be kind of pricey to say the least. But then all DW' 1911's are that now days, and they are worth the dollars.

Don't really know anything about bobtails in 38 super. I only know of a couple guys on this forum with a DW in 38 super. I have a pointman 7 in 38 super with an internal extractor but it was an experimental with a ramped barrel and the serial number starts with XP. My guess is DWs in 38 super are kind of hard to find!

Blue book shows Bobtail at 95% for $775 and at 98% for $900 and the
listing only shows calibers .45 acp and 10mm.
For what it is worth, up round here seller's either use Blue Book as
the bible or for some, a base line and add a $100.
Kimber's are held to a holy grail level in this area (no me !) but yet
the same $1400-$1200 new to $1000-$900 used Kim's will set out month
after month at the shops and show tables. Most are buying used or new
Springfield's, Para's, R1911's or even Rock islands for $400-$700.

Only thing dealers use the "blue book" for is buying and internet auction sites for retail pricing. I was speaking about auction above, because area pricing often has range, what a DW 1911 might bring local in MO might be less the CO, but more then NJ for example.
Bet a NIB PM 1-B 45ACP would not bring more then $750 local and that might take some time, but at auction probably $1200 if not more. The county I live in only has 43,000 people and town is about 17,000 officially, so not the sales base for a DW as say Denver.

Forgot to mention new nickle RIA 45 sells for about $475 tops with standard 1911 at about $375 here and $800 for a new Para Gunrights model. A 95% Kimber Commander Bobtail sold in friends shop for $900, with average new Kimber being in $1200 price range.
