Hello, I'm new on this forum. I have visited from time to time in the past but never posted. I have an early PM-7. It is new in the box. The SN is SVN0022x. It is still wrapped in the plastic bag from Dan Wesson. It has all the paper work, original box, shell casing and original mag. I purchased it about four years ago as new old stock from a gun store going out of business. It is a beautiful gun. I have heard different reports about these guns. Some have been the quality was not so good and others have been the early ones were quite good. Anything anybody can tell me about the gun would be greatly appreciated along with a ball park value. I have looked on this site and can't match the SN with anything listed. I have been thinking of selling it but everytime I look at it I put it back in the case and tuck it away for safe keeping. Thanks for any info.

First of all; dwf-welcome

The PM 7 is a great gun and meant to be shot.  Run a few hundred rounds through it and I'll bet you will want to keep it.  I don't have a lot of experience with the DW 1911 but enough to say that I'll beshooting my PM7-10, 7-45 and PM-9 more and more often.

As to value- it is what someone wants to pay for it.  IMO it's worth is in the 1300-1500 range, as you describe it.  If you plan to sell- photography and description are keys to getting a higher price.

Welcome again.  I hope you decide to keep and shoot it.  Afterall, tools are made to be used...

Best Regards, Ron

I haven't heard stories of any of the DW 1911's as having been bad quality. I suppose that there could always be a small number that made it out the door with issues, I just haven't heard of any.

I will say that while your gun is surely a thing of beauty to look at & hold, the real fun starts when you take it to the range!range-time Lube up the slide a little, then take that baby out & run a couple boxes of ammo through it, I bet you won't entertain thoughts of selling after that. DW 1911's are a real pleasure to shoot, go take it for a spin!laugh

dwf-welcome to the dwf

Welcome to the forum, I think I would agree with Ron's guess on value, in that condition.

Whether you keep it, sell it, shoot it or whatever, Maybe you could post some cool-pics for us? We love pics, and I find it interesting to see exactly what different Dans came with when new. Pics could help somebody in estimating what year it was made.

I have not found any reliable info about Dan Wesson 1911s that had quality issues, stuff like that usually comes from a guy who thinks his particular 1911 is the greatest and that all others ever made were crap.

Thanks for the input.  The couple times I've heard about issues were from other 1911 guys in general conversation.  I would have to say none of them had DW's and were only passing on stories.  Anybody have information on when DW started making these and what the first three letters of the serial number stand for?  I looked at the post on this forum that lists serial numbers and definitions and can't find any that match mine.  If I were to go shoot it would it depreciate the value allot compared to the current condition?  Again thanks for helping me along with this. TW.

Dan Wesson started making 1911s around 2002, not sure what the first letters of the serial stand for. I have a few of the Pre CZ Dan Wesson 1911s and find the quality, fit and finish to to great. As far as value I would say 1000.00

1911forum.com has a great Dan Wesson group that can answer any questions.
