The DWA medallion was used on the early guns. I'm not sure when it was changed to DW, but all of mune have the DW medallion. All of mine are stainless so they were all made after 1978.
Someone here probably knows the exact changeover, probably done at a model change.

mine is monnson, mass. with serial #84728, don't know what year it was made? any help would be appreciated
i alson have a set of grips with no logo on it

According to the Registry list, yours was probably manufactured around 1977 ~ 1978, which was smack-dab in the middle of the "DWA" grip medallion years. Your gun should also have the colored interchangeable front sights, by my guess.
The DW medallion logo came along sometime after 1981, if I recall correctly.
