True and false. 😁. Some folks value Monson over Palmer for no good reason. Others, like me, want Monson shrouds with Monson frames and Palmer shrouds with Palmer frames. Supposedly quality control suffered in the Palmer Era but I have not found that to be the case. In fact, Palmer polish and blueing are held in high regard. Also, all large frame and supermags were made at Palmer.
When the switch was made in 1991, Palmer evidently had many frames role marked Monson. Those transission guns had Palmer marked shrouds. Often, blued guns had stainless barrels also. In my opinion there is no stigma attached to such transmission guns. Perhaps S&W folk would value them higher. They place a lot of store in those silly things. 😆 There were many more Monson small frame guns produced than Palmer guns.
