I just received an email requesting information regarding two Dan Wesson Presentation Revolvers.  Does anyone remember seeing an article about these or have any information that may be useful?  I have also requested photos so if I receive any I will update the post.  Thanks in advance for your help on this one.  Below is the email:

I have a client that has #51 4" Model No-D11 and #52 6" Model #W12 .357 mag revolver heavily engraved and with gold mountain lion and gold bear on #51 and gold prong horn sheep and elk on #52. Both have fancy carved wood grips that were engraved by a W.C. Kulouch (SP?) for this presentation.  The same engraver did the two presentation guns for Robert Peterson of Peterson Publishing and a rifle for Kruschev as well as Bush, Regan and Carter. These #51 and #52 fully engraved revolvers are museum quality and absolutely stunning.  Can you give me a estimate as the value for the pair?  My client wants to sell to buy a car.  Are there members of
your forum that may know about these guns?  They were supposedly cover guns on a Guns and Ammo cover. Thank you for any directions to get information on selling these beautiful guns.

Sounds like a very interesting pair. Who were they originally presented to, is what I'd like to know...may also help determine their value.

Along with some pics, of course.Wink

Shoot,

Very nice find!

I don't think that Michigan Grip was offered long either... That is the first reference to the name that I have seen.

Thanks for sharing!

I've got all kinds of "stuff"--It's just a matter of finding it all and scanning it in.  I think this was from a 1974 shooters bible.

Ya know...I'm not much on an engraved type of guy, but that one I could see myself owning. I like the style of engraving on it (not completely swoopy stuff, but has other things in to break it up), especially the work in the cylinder flutes area.

Hello,

I'm new here, but I'm asking for help.

The "2″ pictures Jody posted above with the engraved Dan Wesson is owned by myself.

Any help on tracking down information on this gun would be greatly appreciated.

Where those pictures generated or who the gun was engraved by/for would be great.

I was told a story about the gun, but would love to confirm any of that info.

Those pictures don't do the engraving justice. It's a real beauty.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Hey Jeff,

I got those pictures from a Proxibid Auction last year (I think it was last year).  So I guess we were bidding against each other! Embarassed

As you probably know we have very little historical information and mostly what we have is pieced together from magazine articles, etc.

My understanding is that Dan Wesson offered factory engraving as an option.  That's really all I know.

I don't normally go for engraved guns but that one I thought was very well done so I bid on it.  So can you share the story you have about the gun?

Sorry I can't be of more help!

Jody

The story I received was that Dan Wesson had it done up for a shot show. Then, sometime after the show, the gun was presented to someone. That's all I know and would love more info. Who engraved it, who it was presented and so forth.

FYI: The engraving quality is wonderful. I guess it's better for me that you didn't win it at the auction, as it would be in your safe instead of mine at this point.

thanks again for your time, Jeff (GUNKWAZY)

You know...you may have the best luck getting some answers from Seth Wesson (Dan's son). He hasn't been on the site in quite a while, but you may be able to get a response by sending him a PM.

You can find him in this thread...

/?page_id=3/dan-wesson-history/questions-for-seth/&value=443&type=8&include=0&search=1&ret=all

And I have a small question of my own...this gun does have a flush barrel nut, right? The end of the barrel in the pic looks like it may have been photoshopped maybe...sorta has a black bump right at the edge. But I'm guessing that may be a dowel in the end, to hold the gun upright for the pic.

Good Morning,

We don't really have a lot of information on the engraved guns.  In the early years of Dan Wesson engraving was a factory option.  Since we don't have any records to reference there is really no way to know how many guns were factory engraved.

Sorry I don't have more information.

Welcome to the forum, Srramey. Welcome

As Jody said, we have limited info so far on these guns...but with each new member who joins here & shares what they know about their engraved guns, ultimately helps the overall knowledge grow.

If you have the means to post some pictures of your gun, we'd sure love to see it.Laugh There's pic posting tips in the "FAQ's" area in the upper right of this screen.
