Got some questions, can you fire 455 Super Mag rounds thru a 44 mag barrel? I imagine the shrouds interchange, just wondered if the barrel tubes are the same? Got my eye on a SM but its a short BA and I know SM BAs are hard to find. Could I shoot a SM with say my VH10 44Mag BA installed on the SM?
Also, I'll guess you can use 44mag dies to load 445 brass, correct?
I read somewhere that guys are cutting down 30-40 krag brass to use in the 445. Is this doable? I have a bunch of 30-40 brass since I don't reload for that gun but always thought I would, so I kept the brass. Plus, you can still find lots of it around.
Thanks

44 BA-No, barrel won't even screw into the frame, shroud won't fit
.44 mag dies-Yes
445 brass is available, directions to cut down 30-40 came with my son's 445 as I recall
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks Steve, didn't know that about the BA interchage, I would have guessed all large frame BAs would interchange. I love this forum, I learn something new everyday.

I believe the barrels will change but the shrouds will only go from 445 down to 44 not the other way. the problem is in the length of the ejector rod, with the 445 being longer than the 44. hope this helps. as for the 445 shooting in a 44 it won't happen. the cases are to long for the cylinder.

I didn't think I could fire 445 from a 44 cylinder, just wondered if I could use some of my larger 44 mag barrels on a 445. It doesn't look like thats possible for the reasons everyone mentioned. Thanks for the heads up though. I was also asking if I could fire 44mags from a 445, cheaper and easier to find over the counter locally.

Agreed, the barrel itself will interchange, but because the ejector rod is longer on the SM, you won't be able to use the 44 shroud on the gun. Actually, I guess you could, if you also swapped ejector rods between the two...seems like a lot of bother though.
Regarding the brass, there's no need to cut down any, unless you really want to. New Starline brass is regularly available on GB & elsewhere. Some of our other members may know of a better source than GB.

Sorry for the mis-information, I really thought I had read here that the barrel was different as well.
Steve:
You were probably think of the .357 magnum/.357 maximum barrels which are not interchangeable due to the different frame size.

You are right, that's it. Thanks for keeping my feeble old memory on track.
