I have question about interchangeability of barrel wrenches for the large caliber DW guns. Can the barrel wrench for a 44 mag be used on the 45 Colt and 460 Rowland guns or does each caliber gun require a separate specific wrench to remove the barrel nut? I have read some of the posts on this forum and on other Internet sites about the production numbers for the Model 7460 in 460 Rowland. Does anyone know the actual number of 7460 guns produced by DW?

Barrel wrench for all the large frame guns should be interchangeable, the compensated barrel shrouds require an extended wrench to reach into the shroud to reach the nut

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

The size of the pilot could cause problems trying to use say a 45 Colt wrench on a 41 mag.  The barrel nut size is the same only the bore pilot will be different.

Thanks for the response guys. I appreciate your help. I am looking for the doorknob style factory wrench for 44 mag.

Thank you for the heads-up Willy. I now have that wrench on my watch list. I bought a DW online that arrived minus that doorknob barrel tool.

As mentioned the .44 will fit the .45 and .460 but not the .41. To save money and get a high quality barrel wrench I would buy one from EWK on this forum. They are cheaper than ebay or anyone else. He has interchangeable pilots for them that you just screw in. You buy one pilot for the .41 and one for the .44 and you have 4 tools in one. Thats what I did. If you have a .445 SM with the built in muzzle brake on the shroud you would need the long type barrel wrench. Just buy that one and interchange your 2 pilots. Then you would have 5 tools in one. EWK makes it so easy and his prices are great. wink

p.s. I just looked up EWK prices for the 5:1 tool its 30.00, for the 4:1 tool its 25.00. It doesn't get cheaper than that and it was last for ever. The plastic ones will break.

Thank you Gary. I intend to follow your advice and pick up the EWK tools for use on my guns. I just purchased a DW that came complete with all factory accessories except the doorknob wrench. I am looking for a replacement to complete the package.
