I was wondering what the value of some Dan Wesson boxed 445 Super Mag ammo is worth.  I found two boxes and bought them, have been thinking about listing on GB.  Thanks

Do a search on completed sales on GB some recently were listed and sold but I'm not sure what they closed at, I'm thinking 40 plus per box

The last and only auction I could find was one box and it sold for 67.00 plus 20.00 shipping.

I bought a case from an auction house a year ago, was selling for 45 a box. I remember them selling on other auctions for 50 to 80 dollars a box.

The box I have is blue the one that sold was white with a centered Dan Wesson Blue Logo what if it is a running difference or how old the ammo is?  I will most likely put it up on GB either way.  If anyone here has an interest let me know.  I have a 445 Super Mag but can get ammo a a lot cheaper to shoot.

I don't believe you'd buy that DW ammo to shoot it. Black Dog is about $1.60 a round. What did you find?

I bought it because never had seen it before, found it at the shop that does my transfers.

When you look at the prices vintage ammo boxes bring I'd be inclined to set them away. It's been years since they were made and there aren't anymore on the horizon. When an old box of ammo will sell for more than a firearm I'd hold on.

I have never seen any in person and would love to see a photo of the head stamp.

Buy brass from Starline and use 44 mag dies and bullets and load your own, very cost effective method to shoot 445.

When you add up all the costs of equipment to set-up a reloading operation, what is the amount of rounds required for "payback" ?

Selway Armory has 445 as does Reeds both more reasonable than Black Dog.  The Dan Wesson ammo I have one is 240 grain and the other is 300.  Torn on selling it as have never seen it before thought it was quit unique when he showed it to me as he knows I am a big Dan fan.

Someone may pay some exorbitant price for it, but it's not worth any more than 20 rds of Starline brass loaded up with JHP lead - $29.  All that DW ammunition was loaded up in a back room and packed in a DW box - you can still do the same thing today with the same components.  But, if you feel good about it go ahead and post it up and let someone waste their money.  You asked for "worth", and there's my 2 cents! big-grin

If all one wanted to do was load for one caliber and had to buy a press, dies, powder scale and supplies, I doubt it would make sense to reload.  However, if you will be loading for more than one caliber or have to load for your guns because store bought ammo is nonexistent, then it is not too big an expense.

I load on a Dillon XL650, so a tool head, powder measure, dies and caliber conversion kit are a couple hundred bucks.  But I can use the powder measure for several calibers, the dies for 44 special and mag will load 445 so I can do three cartridges with just a die adjustment and a powder charge change.  Now the cost is spread over three cartridges so cost is much less.

If you are into supermags, especially the 375 and 414, you either load your own or have someone who loads for you as factory loaded rounds basically don't exist.  Besides, it's fun big-grin

Thanks for the pix DA! I was wondering if the head stamp indicated in any way that it was a DW product.

No sir. That headstamp is used by Starline Brass from Sedalia, MO. They use it on every different case they make.
