I have been liking into getting a revolver for a few years but have been on the fence the whole time because I wanted 1 gun that would incompass all my needs namely
1) very accurate
2) concealable
3) good looking
4) shootability
5) capable of bringing down med game
And I believe I have found it in THE DW 357 Super mag. I now have some questions also in numerical order.
1) barrel lengths
2) what other rounds if any can it shoot
3) what to look for when buying a DW 357 super mag
4) where to look for quality well maintained revolvers for sale
Thank you in advance for your reply

With the possible exception of "concealability" a Model 40/740 would be a good choice.
Most common barrel lengths are 6" and 8", and you normally find them on Gun Broker and other auction sites. They will shoot .357 Magnum as well.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Yes the Supermag is larger and heavier than a 629. The Dan Wesson Supermag frame is longer to accomodate the almost two inch long supermag rounds. I'd describe the SM as almost as big as a Smith and Wesson X frame like on thier 460 and 500 mag guns. The Supermags are beefy guns alright. If you can find a short barrel assembly, say four inch, you could possibly carry it but most barrels are 6-10inches in length.
A better choice for a carry gun, and with more readily available barrel options, would be either a regular 357 mag 15-2/715-2 or if you need more stopping power, a 44mag. I know its hard to believe but the 44/744 are smaller and lighter guns than the SMs. If you see the two side by side you get the picture.
Not trying to talk you out of a 357SM, they are great guns. I only wanted to let you know the facts.
Too bad you didn't come along a little sooner, I just sold a beautiful 740 with 8VS barrel. It had been fired, but not abused.
Good luck with your search.
BTW there are a few nice 357SMs on Gunbroker right now, a few reasonalby priced also.

The SuperMags would be the last pistol for self protection for me. If you shoot it one time you will understand what I mean. Without ear protection the sound is so intense that it feels like an ice pick going into your ear drums. It is super loud and deafening. Just my 2 cents.

When you are in a situation where you are using a weapon to defend your self or another you will not care how loud it is there will be other things on your mind. That's my experience, and the best use of a weapon in lets say a mugging would be to use it to intimidate the assailant into submission or at least to run away. Death is awlays a last resorts.

Any gun you are carrying is better than anything you have at home in the safe.
What I've been taught and told by my law enforcement friends is, don't pull your gun unless you are prepared to use it.
