Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Scout, I think the Ruger sights only fit the later 44's and the small frames. Your sight clearly looks like a early long style 44 sight. However the hold down screw is not correct. that may be your problem. The threads may be messed up and that may be why the wrong screw is used.

The ruger sight fit on my 744 and my 715. But I have a new DW factory rear sight (purchased from CZ/DW store) and it fits my 715. I would have to assume if it fits the 715 it will fit the 744. I could not notice any size differences with the notches in the rear sight on both models

There are two different length sights for the 44s. They are not interchangeable. The shorter sight is the same as the small frame sights but the small frame and later 44 sights will not work on the early 44s. I know, I have both.
Good to know. I have a Palmer 744 so that's obviously a "later" model

Small frame 44's? I find myself intrigued, do you have photos you can post of small frame DW 44's? I'm not entirely sure what you're saying here.
Or do you mean early & late 44's?
Just trying to clarify.

So, No early model .44/.445 sights have popped up anywhere. It's been said here on the DWF, that Ruger sights will not fit the early 44s, only the later Small and Large Frames.
I just ordered a Blackhawk and Redhawk Rear Sight Assemblies from Ruger anyway. (According to Ruger, the Blackhawk, Redhawk, GP100, and the SP101 Match, all have different rear sights.) So a minimum of four possibilities.
If neither fit, I will make available to here for cost plus shipping. Then, I will try the GP100 and SP101 Match sights.
FYI: Ruger wants a gun SER# for every part you order. Luckily, I have Ruger friends. If you don't own a Ruger, it does not take a rocket scientist to know that the are plenty of used Rugers for sale online if you need to hypothetically "borrow" a Model/Ser# for your parts purchase.
I now have 4 of the Ruger Rear sight part#s: Super & Redhawk; Stainless#70038 & Blue#70039. Super and Blackhawk; Stainless#70032 & Blue#70030

Unfortunately, the Ruger or Firesight sights won't fit your gun. Please pay close attention to the length of the sight and the placement of the elevation screw. I don't think anyone has come up with an alternative for the longer sights with the elevation screw placed rearward on the sight. The link rwsem posted above shows the two sights together so you can see the differences.
