Question: how common is a VH8 BA for the model 40? I usually see V8S BA's but have not seen the VH8. I've also never seen a VH8S for this model either.

I believe I have seen a few here on the forum. But they are not real common.

I've never seen a VH8S BA for a 40/740, only for the 7445. DW does not currently make the slotted shrouds. However, Keith has said that he will cut correctly sized slots on request. I believe the price he quoted was $85.00.
I'm planning on a VH8S for each of my SM's (740, one of my 7414's and my 7445).
Go for it Ed, might look pretty good with that dark laser-colored barrel.

I agree with these guys, I haven't seen a VH8S model 40. It's hard to say for sure that they never made one, but at thins point I'm inclined to assume that's the case.
I have seen some VH barrels in various lengths, although they aren't very common. Here's some pics from ads that I've saved. This VH10 barely fits in that box!
Here's a 5" & 6" that was on GB a while back. At first glance I was calling BS on the 5", but looking at the 2nd pic, it looks as though it may really be a factory 5" barrel. Wish I would have grabbed it.

Seems like I've seen them as well but if so they are few and far between! I currently have for my Model 40 the following BA's:
1) V6
2) V8
3) V10
4) V8S
5) VH10S with extra barrel
So if anyone spots one I don't have and are not interested in it let me know.
