This is the nicest one I've seen yet. Came with box and eveything else including Hogue and Pachmayr grips.  Every aspect of the gun looks as good as these few pictures.   Looks like this one will be my DW 357M.  My search for a rag of a 357MAX to become a custom 445 continues.   Note the "357M" prefix on the serial number.   Is this a common marking?  I don't have another DW SM that has the caliber marking as part of the serial number.

There is one other Model 40 in the S/N Registry like that- "357MB001212" which appears to be a 1987 gun.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Mine has the serial starting 357MB also. The barrel wrapper that came

with the spare barrel also marked 1987. You have a sweet looking

SuperMag there, enjoy occasion

Very nice looking model 40.  Just curious as to why you are looking for a model 40 for a 445 custom when there's lots of 445's floating around?

Great looking pistol. I bought one just like it from a collection. Mine had never been shot.

Those 445s just cost to much!  I can have a custom built for less than most sell for.  I thinking I'll rechamber a 44 to a tight chamber 45 Colt too...

That is a common marking for all DW's in the later Monson years, it also carried through into the Palmer years. Prior to the caliber markings, they used various letters ahead of the numbers...and prior to that, they just used numbers.

Glad to see you here, Axe! welcome aboard.occasion

+1 on the marking. I have been looking (well was looking, need to build my money fund back up) for a 357 Max WITHOUT the 357 serial number so I could do a custom build on it and most of the auctions i looked at in the last year for a 357 max started with a 357...

+2 on welcome aboard.

Cheers
