Had a rainy morning last week so I decided to do my first large frame disassembly on my .44 mag. I bought this one about a year ago from forum member Vonfatman and it is a shiny beauty and great shooter. However on a range trip last winter in freezing temps a couple times the cylinder did not advance properly so I figured it needed a good cleaning inside. Following Superdan and Landtoy's great thread I tore it apart and was surprised the inside was very dirty and GRITTY! And a small amount of light rust. Cleaned it all well and thanks to Harly's string trick all went together easily.
Here are some pics, unfortunately I cannot take nice pics no matter how I try. The shroud I bought off Ebay, and it turned out to be in not so good condition. Sent it to Eric, and he cut slots in it for me and reblued it now it is just as beautiful as the gun. Added a Millett white outline rear sight, and an EWK plain black front sight for contrast. And new stainless EWK barrel, love the crown cut! The grip I got in a box of parts I bought from Ron a couple years ago, stripped the ugly thick shellac off and redid it in Truoil.
The last pic was taken by previous owner Vonfatman with its original 8VH shroud.
