Hello everybody, hope ya"ll are doing well. Received my ammo from seller today 100 rounds of winchester 240 gr. 44 mag, 50 rounds of new starline brass and 40 rounds of spent starline brass. No loaded 445sm rounds. SIMPLY, what over the counter round would ya'll suggest for the light deer of south Texas, and what round for hogs up to 250 pounds. I am on new ground here for the 445sm. I shot a deer a few years ago with a 45 winmag at about 70ft. from a S&W 6" and it pretty much wasted the off shoulder. Should I just concentrate on hogs with the 445? I do have the 357sm for deer and have the 180gr.xtp rounds for that, has anyone experience with the 200gr. spire points. I'll probably purchase from Reeds Ammo, can't find any load info for Bullseye.

Do you reload? If not, you will not find much loaded 445 ammo. If you do reload, there are a lot of published loads for it and you can use 44 mag dies and bullets, just get some brass from Starline and you are good to go.

Scorpio/pete/others, with a fresh barrel and inserts for cylinder 445SM should be able to handle pressures of 30 carbine round, correct? With the 55gr.-.223 sabotted excellerator it should be pushing 2400-2500 +FPS, plus the opposite direction to125gr.-.308 bullets? If I'm going to hand load I may as well do something nifty. Whooops, right question wrong forum?

decoyme, not sure I understand the question. Are you the guy that landed that rebarreled 445 with the caliber reducing inserts? If so, I have no advice to offer on that wild cat.

SAAMI pressure spec fo the 30 carbine is 40K. There is no SAAMI spec for the 445 SM but I have a note in my book that it's 40K- don't know where I picked that up though. So, the revolver is strong enough as it was designed but modification to the chambers with an insert begs to ask the question; are the inserts built well enough? Keep an eye on the breech face as well.
If it were me and assuming I wanted to do this.... after I ensured bore to chamber throat alignment and timing were all good, I'd start with lighter 100gr lead bullets and load light. Shoot, inspect, shoot some more, inspect, increase load, shoot, inspect etc... go slow/ stay safe.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Back again, finally settled on Reeds Ammo to feed the 445SM, people there very responsive to email and courteous. Getting the 445SM 240 gr. XTP/ 1600fps in 8" revolver and 300 gr. nosler HP at 1400 fps from 8". They did not have the 240xtp listed but recommended them to best fit what I was looking for, now just waiting for my herniated UPS driver to deliver. Saw a big boar 3 times this last couple of months, the first time I thought he was a calf, he has got be pushing 350-400 pounds. I think either of these loads should work.
