I'm about to buy my first supermag and I don't know a lot about them other than the 445 is very versatile. I'm meeting the guy in the morning. He wants $1000, it appears to be in very good condition other than some marks on the vent rib from the scope mount. I've included a couple of pics below. Does this seem like a fair price? What's the availability of brass?

I would say $1000 is a pretty good deal. I wish the pics were better and would like to see the side with the serial number. If you can get him down $100 or $200 it would be a steel. You can shoot 44 magnum loads out of it to save money you can buy 445 ammo at buffalo Boar it's $$$$ around $3.20 per round.

If you get it purchased and can't find any brass, PM me, I would offer you some. That revolver is a good deal, in my opinion.
Thanks, will do! Looking at actual selling prices of the 445, I thought it seemed like a good deal too, even with the dinged up vent rib. It seems like I read somewhere that if you call CZ/Dan Wesson, they'll sell a supermag shroud for the 445, but I'm probably just mistaken.

That's exactly what I thought when I saw the pics. I'm going to try and find a replacement shroud if I end up buying the revolver.

I'm about to ask him to send pics of the other side right now. I'll post them when I get them.

Yea it's a Palmer. i though so when I saw the bluing! Anyway buy it even at $1000 it's a very good deal. This gun would sell on gunbroker for more like $1500. you can touch up the barrel with a bluing pen. They have flat black for the top of the shroud and the shinny black for the sides.

Damn! It's local and you beat me to it!
And, Bullseye Shooting Supplies runs a little less $ on .445 ammo. Ask for Paul!
I'm about to leave to go meet him in Fort Worth, but if I decide I don't want to keep it after shooting it a few times, I'll give you right of first refusal before I sell it. Thanks for the tip on the 445 ammo, I'll check them out when I get back.

It would be a fair price @ $1k, but I think the larger question is....how much are the marks on the vent rib from the scope mount going to bother you? It looks like there are a few gouges into the rib on the left side.....how deep are they and could they be blended in and reblued? That's the #1 reason why I really dislike those clamp-on mounts - they damage the shroud. On this particular gun it looked like they really cranked down the clamps and they dug into the rib pretty good. Sometimes the barrel assy's. come up for resale and you could replace it, but they are not cheap these days. Other than the vent rib, the gun appears to be in nice condition. If you're able to address the barrel with a competent gunsmith you'll probably be into it for about $1,250. But also keep in mind, there are a lot of guns out there in this price range.
