Thanks for the chance to show off a unique pistol pack. I appreciate the opportunity to preserve this incredible craftsmanship in a Dan Wesson archive
My original P44VH (Pistol Pack) was stolen in 1985. The police recovered it in 6” shroud & Packmayr grip configuration. I’ve used it as the foundation when I had a chance to build my own custom pistol pack, around 1989.
This is my WidowMaker. This project (nicknamed WidowMaker after the motorcycle hill) was devised by me and my great friend Gary. Gary did all the design, engineering, and fabrication himself. A brilliant man. What we ended up with is, I think, truly innovative and amazing.
I bought the 8” barrel. Gary made four items for the Dan Wesson. A craftsman of the first water:
1. 6” custom shroud, slab sided, custom contoured, machined compensation slots, pinned, milled for front sight interchangeability, machined for stock front attachment ring
2. and an 8” shroud as above
3. 2” custom extension we nicknamed ‘dickhead’. This is machined with the identical dimensions and contouring of the original 6” shroud. It fits in front of the 6” stock shroud and turns it into 8”!!! It is nearly invisible when mounted.
4. Custom scope rings that attach to the 6” factory shroud. The clamp-ons were walking and tearing up the shroud. I have a 4x LER Leupold. I love the overall picture the firearm presents when it's mounted.
Then everything went off for blueing.
We picked out a typeface and Gary milled “WidowMaker” on both sides of the 6” and 8” custom shrouds.
This allows a variety of shooting configurations and weights. I bought an aluminum camera case and cut out a carrying configuration for my WidowMaker pistol pack, including speedloaders, ammo and tools. Ready to go.
thanks again
(ps – I’m searching high and low and will find and attach a jpg of the .7” )

44 magvh,
By stating one off the bucket list, you drove a nitro funny car?

Only in my wildest dreams.
(This is the very short version. And tell me if I go off topic too much. I don't fully understand forum etiquette in this regard.)
No I was a spectator.
But I got us invited down to the launch pad to witness, up close and personal, a funny car launch at the NHRA Thunder Valley Nationals in Bristol, Tenn. this year.
They are each 8,000hp, the fasestt accelerating mannned vehicles on earth. At launch it's the third loudest man made noise on the planet. And we were standing beside THEM. Oh the smell of nitro.
I posted some short clips on youtube.
PLAY LOUD
burnout
clean tires & kick in supercharger

Exhilarating.
Right up there with shooting my DW.

44magvh,
Thanks for the clearing of "the air". I too am a Nitro nut, I usually am one of those in the pits with tears streaming down the face and nitro burning in the throat getting as close to that noise as possible. There is not a motorsport on the planet that even close to compares to the feel of a nitro hemi being tuned at about 30' away.

44magvh,
I forgot to mention, that back about 15-years ago my close firend actually got to help John Force fold and pack his chute prior to a final round event at Maple Grove Raceway, and then got invited into the hauler to clean up. Those days are over for sure. We live only an hour from Maple Grove and that is a good thing.
