Very interesting that the first 25 414 SM have a non fluted cylinder. In February of 2006 I was at the sportsman's show and learned that CZ bought DW. I came home and ordered a 414 hunter pac right away. I received mine on march 13th.   I had a friend that is a huge fan of the 41 caliber fall in love with the DW. He called shortly after looking at mine and was told that no new builds were available anymore.  I wish the picture was better. I tried to get a good picture of the hunter pac this afternoon when the sun was just right but the batteries were dead in my camera, and there was only one double A battery in the junk drawer. I charged the batteries but the pictures I took tonight didn't come out very good. I'll try to get better ones soon.

 Tigger, SMF had DW/CZ make a non-fluted cylinder for that one. Post #6 is the before shot…

…and post #55 is the new/improved look.Cool

I just noticed that I haven't included my .375 in this thread. This is a good a time as any, I guess. 😛

OK I stand corrected. I'll go back and edit my post. I had not read all the posts yet. So it looks like the only non-fluted cylinder 414 were from the original 25?

Tigger,

If I remeber,  the article by Todd Spotti had him testing a Norwich SRS-1 in 414 that had an unfluted cyliner.  I have DroolDrool over that article a many a times in pursuit of the elusive 414's.  Correct me If I am wrong however.

Yeah I have read that article a few times and I just went back and read it again. A few things stood out. First was the unfluted cylinder option;

My gun also came with an un-fluted cylinder (factory option) which really gave the gun a very handsome appearance. However, if you should order this option, be very careful about the gun's weight. This gun came in under the weight limit by only a fraction of an ounce. You don't want any surprises when your gun gets weighed at an important match. A fluted cylinder might be a safer option in this cambering.

Second was that he mentions the fact that it could be had in blue. So maybe there are a few 414's out there somewhere in the hands of a few people that ordered them that way from Norwich. This just puts the collecting game up a notch. lol2

My 414 is one of the new SRS-1 models. SRS stands for Super Ram Silhouette. It's DW's top of the line model and is optimized for silhouette shooting. The gun can be had in both stainless steel and in blue. I was provided with the stainless.

Chasing down all the facts on these guns from basically 4 manufacturing periods is interesting to say the least. Good thing we have this forum dedicated to it.DWF Sign

There was recently a question about whether 414's were ever made in blue.  If my memory serves me correct last year POPS2 had an opportunity at a blued 414 somewhere but passed it up.  I think it was discussed in a thread of long ago.  That is the only discussion I have ever heard of that would support the existance of a bonafide blued 414.  Call me lazy, but the system is running too slow to look for the thread.

Normally, I'd say that was worth waiting for, but... well, it WAS worth waiting for.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
