The Bad:

Well went to shoot the new 44V and as I was waiting for the gentleman I was meeting to buy 250 rounds from I thought I would check the gap as I forgot to since I bought it. I quit at .015 and grabbed the wrench. Well the bushing won and the wrench rounded out the slotsfrown Day over before it began.

The Good:

Emailed EWK on Saturday and asked Eric if I could meet him as he was only an hour away so I could correct this before I go away on Tuesday. He agreed!! I met him earlier this morning and was surprised how young he either was or looked. I was expecting someone maybe my age or a little younger. That said, an extremely nice and helpful young(er) man who is a heck of a craftsman especially if he is as young as I assume. He offered for me to bring the pistol to him if I couldn't remove the barrel nut, WOW, extremely generous! Oh, he is still up to his eyeballs with work with pretty much no end in sight which makes it all the more remarkable he agreed to meet me.

The Ugly:

Soaked in Kroil for a day and a half but no dice on an easy tap out with a punch. Heated it up with a butane torch in case of Locktite, nada. Took a drill with a 1/16" bit and drilled into the nut to help relieve the torque stress and give me a good point to catch with the punch. Did 3 separate holes. And finally it budged then out. One small mishap with the punch that left a small nick at 12 o'clock. I guess I could chuck it up and machine 5-10 thousandths off but It's just not that noticeable to me. I lightly scarred the threads on the barrel but a light sanding. a triangle file, and a few runs on and off with the new nut and all was well. Not textbook but once I started it became a mission! If it looked like I was going do any more damage that what it incurred I would have stopped and called Eric and made an appointment.

Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....

Congrats!  I’m sending mine to Bob as soon as I get the authorization number.

If mine wasn’t a 15-inch BA I’d try harder to fix it myself, but since those are rare I decided to take a safer route.  Go Bob @ DW!!! 😁

Wonderful job with the repair work.  It gives me hope if I ever have that serious of a problem.  I had one nut I had to ruin to get off, but it was not near as bad as yours.  I was very lucky.

Glad you got it off, they can be tough when on like that.

I've used the all thread and one of EWK's wrenches with the hex head and held in a vise and got a few off this way.

Now go shooting!
