Hi there
I just purchased this last night for my husband. Wondering exactly what I have here. I am having trouble finding any info on it. What model is it and maybe the value. It is unshot still had the factory grease on it. He has wanted a Dan Wesson for ever, so how could I go wrong. Below are some photos. It is two tone, hard to see in the pictures
thanks for your help
WOW, what a great gift you picked out for him! Looks like all the paperwork is there. Please ask him to share the date and SN number for our data...DW's are hard to date due to lack of paperwork. This IS the place to ask any questions and find info about DWs!
Thanks for sharing.

Actually, you have a Dan Wesson 15-2. Since the barrel configuration can change very readily, the style or length of the barrel assembly is not part of the legal model designation.
The 6" Vent configuration is nicer than the more common standard 6", allowing the use of a "clamp on" scope mount.
You said "Two Tone", I think you are seeing something that occurs with some 15-2's where the frame has a slightly different coloring (sort of purple). This is a known quirk in some 15-2's, not really a problem or functional flaw, it just happens randomly, and is prized and sought after by some owners. This is sometimes described as a "Barney" gun, nicknamed after the purple dinosaur cartoon character.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thank you for all the input. Wondering where I find the date now. The letter with it is dated 1981. Wondering if that would be the year? Will register it as soon as I get a date.
It was shear luck that I happened to stop at the auction down the road and there it was. I couldn’t believe it.
It is our 32nd anniversary on the 23rd. Hopefully I can wait that long to give it. Should make him happy. Hopefully I can keep him from shooting it, will have to help him search for a different one to play with. It sure is pretty our new guns don’t even compare.
Again thank you for your help.
Look on Gunbroker. Com for another. One slightly used for shooting. Lol. Or shoot the one you bought him. When ejecting cases, tilt the gun to the left and keep your pointer and middle finger pushing against the cylinder while you reload. The cylinder tends to want to close while the ejector star is extended and will scratch the sideplate and/or gouge the back of the recoil shield.
