This one has been in the works for a couple months now and I finally had the opportunity to complete it. The mod. 22 started out as a blue 99+% V6 in the box with only a few rounds though it – all the internals look new. I had quite a few .22 BA's with unfired barrels and only some light surface scratches on the shrouds that I knew would brush out during the plating process. I stripped it down to the bare frame and the parts went off to the plater about 2 months ago for the finish – brushed hard chrome with matte hard chrome on the top strap and vent ribs. After doing a lot of research on on finishes, I came to the conclusion that hard chrome is still one of the best finishes out there. The hammer and trigger were done in jet-black, the barrels, barrel nuts, sights, and side plate screw remained black. To top it off is a new set of zebra's. Here's the end result!

I don't easily come to grips with changing DW's from their original form (and I did it myself, after a lot of agonizing) I must say that you really did right by this. That is a picture perfect example of what someone who respects the heritage does, I think it's perfect.

Thanks for all the nice comments on this one!. I was really pleased at the results when I got it all back together. The brushed finish is somewhat close to the stainless but just a little different color tone. I'm not really one for changing the original form of a DW (or most anything else), but this time I wanted something a little different that I could call "my own" and as Steve said, stay with the original heritage of DW. Further to Mike's comment about HC, I was reading a lot of testimonials out there of guns with HC being in use for years, holstered regularly, and the finish still looks untouched. It's an extremely durable finish that looks great when done correctly. If anyone is ever considering a similar project, one thing I learned is to pay real close attention to any surface imperfections prior to plating, no matter how small they are. If you can see it or feel it on the surface prior to plating, you'll see it and feel it after plating also. Be sure to identify everything that needs to be addressed prior to plating. Here's one more for the record!

This was absolutely true when my bright nickel was done. A tremendous amount of work went into surface prep, anything not perfectly smooth would show up instantly.

Harly,
That is a beautiful revolver pack you put together there. I have never owned anything in HC but that would make me consider doing one. Maybe a Supermag? The detail you paid attention to does not go unnoticed, your photo looks like a piece right out of a Dan Wesson piece of literature. Thanks for sharing this.

It sure does, doesn't it?
That project turned out fantastic. The mix of blued pieces with the set adds the perfect touch. Nice work & thanks for sharing the
