Welcome to th DWF. A picture is worth a thousand words. I think that saying predates photography. Probably a snappy retort by a young artist when his poet father told him to get a real job. Just a hunch but, models 11+12 , circa 1970 and 1971 were for a time denoted as 11D and 12W. Pretty rare grip I think. Is the model # on the frame and the serial# behind the crane?

OK I finally found a pic I could swipe. Here is the earliest medallion DW had. Small with just a W on it. This one is on a model 14 pork-chop, but could be found on any small frame Dan as they all interchange. It is obviously worn to almost un recognizable here but I believe you get the idea. Yes it was from the early 70s. Not sure of exact dates. There were a few types of grips that wore this medallion. I hope this answers your question. We could tell more about the gun if we could see a picture.
