revolver problem
Okay, so i picked up a 357 dan wesson from the local gunshow for a
reasonable price. Not exactly sure of the model but it is a Monson made, looks like an 15-2 with a non-vented 6 inch barrel. When i took it to the range the thing would shoot on
single action (manual cocking) and it is ridiculously accurate . On
double action though there would be 4 cylinders where the round gets
dented off center/lightlighly and would not ignite. I then put the
revolver into single and it shot just dandy
How big of a problem is this? Is it dangerous now to just shoot in on
SA? How and whom should i contact to get it fixed? I really hate to see
this one go, it's an early Monson revolver with beautiful blueing,
walnut grip, and a heavy nonvented barrel
oh yeah and again, most accurate pistol i've shot up to date

Welcome to the !
The first thing I'd do is check the grip screw. If you can turn it in a bit, that may be your problem. Otherwise as is often the answer around here- a good cleaning and a new set of Wolff springs should do the trick. Don't be afraid to take the side plate off and really clean the details. There are tuorials pinned to the top of the reloading, gunsmithing and grip making section.
Looking forward to seeing pics!

Gun,
Post up a few pics of this one so we know what you have! Also on springs check the add on Right for EWK he has some different springs that may help out too. Clean it up as Ron said also the grip screw. What did you get with it? Wrench? feeler guage? both of these can be picked at EWK. You will need them.

thank you gents for the speedy reply and diagnose, figure there's no where better to ask than here. I am very much impressed by the deep blueing of this revolver and as i said the accuracy was great. I will take off the grip and check the screw then? How hard is it to remove the side plate and install new spring?
I figuered talking to others that due to fact that it shoots just fine on SA it should'nt be a timing problem, is that correct?

It's pretty easy, really. Here's a good picture thread covering this subject...

Thorough cleaning, lube, springs if needed (usually a good idea) has fixed countless DW revolvers. Grip screw has an impact on the mainspring function. Finally, check barrel gap on all 6 chambers, DW cylinder fronts are not uniformly square and flat.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

As Sparky says, the double action is noted to be on the "short" side, but the "off center is something else, in the timing, like its not locking up before the hammer reaches its furthest point...may need a heavier (thicker) "hand" ( pawl)
yes, if the stud in the grip frame comes loose, that will affect the " fall" (hammer drop) so there are a few things to be looked at... sounds like a nice gun though
hopefully no one tried to do a "trigger job" and smoothed or rounded off the rear of the trigger too much, they used to do that years ago................
