My DW 357 started misfiring when I shoot double action. Single action is no problem. I took it to a gunsmith who claimed he cleaned, lubed and installed a new hammer spring but when I took it to the range only three out of six rounds fired on double action.
Would another hammer spring fix my problem? Do hammer springs come in different strengths? How can I tell a good hammer spring from a bad one? Any advice will be greatly appreciated!

More than likely you can back off the grip screw a bit and fix the issue but a search turns up some threads to check out:

Give those a look and if there are still issues, let us know!

Thanks for the links. Makes for interesting reading.
I've owned my DW for several years and shoot it regularly but never had a double action misfire until recently. I'll try loosening the grip screw before trying anything else. The DW owner's manual cautions against over-tighening the grip but doesn't say why.

Because over tightening the grip screw can create this problem. We tend to think in terms of "crank it down so it does not come loose".
The DW Small frame grip screw is part of the action, the grip screw is less important in holding the grip in place than tuning the DA function.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Thanks Ron for the links to those misfire discussions. If you have a bunch of dans the problem will occur. Is it possible the list could be pinned in the gunsmirhing section so newbies and others can easily refer to it. One of the true joys of Dan Wessons is the ability to easily troubleshoot and fix most problems. If you can turn a allen wrench you can fix your dan, thanks to Jody, the DWF and all of the very knowledgable members. Oh, and Karl Lewis and DBW.
