This Gun Show was Huge. 700 tables and only two Dan's in the Bldg.
This Dan is a 14-2 4" Service revolver. The finish is a Satin Blue and the grip a Sacramento style.
I was going to pass this one up but with a little help from the wife and at only $275 we brought it home.
Same Dan w/the original grip...
The Sacramento Grip I got there at the show for $15 .
At another table...
There was a 15-2 there w/ 2 barrels that didn't match and I tried my darnedest to get the 2.5" BA from the dealer but they wouldn't play along. They wanted $700 for the 15-2, a pinned sight 6" solid ribbed BA, a 2.5" V BA that was in great shape and the older style two piece barrel tool.

Tanx guys.
I was kind of indifferent to the 14-2's, till I got close to this one. Once I cleaned it up and put the original grip back I relized this is a very solid revolver. Without the rear sight assembly it fits well in the hand much like holding a very large S&W snubby, not by the grip but wrapping you fingers around the frame. The shroud is different too, as is the top strap. The Satin blue finish is much darker than the polished version and the scruff marks don't really stand out. You have to look hard to see the drag line, it's there but the bluing is not on the surface, it's more permeated into the microgrooves of the finish. If I re-blue a gun Satin is probably the way to go.
I am not enamored with the highly blued polish finish cause of the care needed to keep it pristine.
This "Satin Finish" appears to take every day use and it doesn't show it as much.
I still think Nickel is neat, shiny and durable with the possible exception of the newer "Hard Satin Chrome" cause I have seen them stainless guns although holding their gloss... pitted from the elements.

Range report...
I am extremely pleased, to the point of ing.
No FTF's
This gun with its frame only sights is accurate. The best groups came with 125 gr lead round nose over 4 gr's. of Win Super Target using 357 brass w/ Federal primers. There were 3 shot groups a couple of time less than an inch. The other rounds of 158 gr SWC with 4.6 gr's of Trail Boss I presume would do better in longer barrels.
I finally understand what some folks mean about "character" in a gun. In the bright sunlight I saw every flaw and it struck me that with this finish it didn't look "marred" like a bright polished finish does. It had "character" almost like it had to work for a living, it wears it's age gracefully. The grips with it's dings and scrapes matched the look of the metal. I'm not gonna do a thing to this piece it looks exactly like it should. It looks like it spent many a year in a policemans holster.
Now, the last thing. Being of Scotch-Irish descent there is a very strong desire for all things thrifty. I have been "mining" all the lead I have been shooting and finding others too.
Today I put out a 5 gallon plastic bucket, of which I can get many free and filled it with sand. Then I took the least expensive paper plates and using 1/2" masking tape, taped across the plate to the side of the bucket. The rounds did not penetrate the other other side and were caught within the bucket. I would just add another paper plate and tape it over the first "target" and continue. Now after I am finished typing this I'm gonna go and reclaim, by sifting the sand from the bucket, the lead for re-use.
I had a good time today.

Thought I had a 714 but SteveCT suggested it was a hard chrome 14-2. Very beautiful. I too like the sleek look of the service model. Shoots low but the ledge at the base of the sight works great. The hard chrome doesn't even show a cylinder ring. I don't know who did it but I love it.

EWK has a conversion front sight so that you can use a 15-2 shroud on a 14-2
