Went to a show yesterday, one that has never had a Dan at it before. Thought I'd get some brass, loading supplies etc. I didn't set out looking for another 15-2 but this one jumped out at me. The pics don't do it justice, the bluing is flawless, deep, rich black, not even a trace of Barney. There isn't any turn ring and the cylinder face is clean. Even the recoil plate has nice bluing. The top strap doesn't show any evidence of a flame cut or line. In short, if this gun has ever been fired, it hasn't been fired much. It doesn't appear to have been reblued either, all the roll marks are deep and sharp. Timing and lockup are great too.
The guy selling it said it was one of 30 guns he bought out of an estate sale of a gun collector. He doubted it had been shot much if at all. Its an older Dan serial 696XX with the white outline sight and serrated hammer spur. Front sight is not colored, and its pinned. Bore is perfect. What attracted me were the grips, I don't have any others like them. No tools, or papers. Only problem is now I have to sell one of my other 15-2s got too many and need the $$$. This one was just too nice to pass up. Price was right too. I'm telling myself I'm upgrading my collection yea, thats it, I'm upgrading, now I feel better.Anything worth doing is worth doing well.

Sweet! for sure an early one, with that pinned front sight. I have a pair of grips like on the gun, I always thought they have a comfortable feel to them despite being plain looking. That spare grip is cool too, I have seen them before but not been able to snag one yet.
I don't own safe queens, but that one with your description I'd have to make an exception I think.

I may shoot this gun, not sure yet. It has a faint ring on the cyl, I think mainly from being rotated but it may have been fired. There aren't any impact marks on the recoil shield and the cylinder face is totally clean. If it was fired, somebody did a first rate cleaning job. The top strap area is also so clean, I think this thing spent a lot of years in a safe somewhere.
The last few shows I've been to, there have been one or two Dan's, 15-2's mainly, all with low serial numbers. This is the second one I've grabbed with a 5 digit #. Only other Dan I saw last week was an overpriced scoped 744.

Nice one. I like the pinned front sight - its something we don't see very often. I had a set of those grips and they were the most comfortable grips ever - they were just a little beat up looked like a tree branch so I gave them away. I like that checkered set also - they're a little different.

I think they call the small checkered set 'Saratoga' grips. It was a Dan Wesson offering in the early days from what I can find. They are quite thin and would make a nice combat/concealed grip, feel good in the hand.

There was a Sacramento grip, pretty similar.
I think this is an Eagle grip from Art Jewel Enterprises. Art Jewel is still in business, but not the DW business.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

SteveCT is correct those are Sacramento grips, I don't know why I typed Saratoga, other than I was watching a documentary on a diving expedition to the WWII aircraft carrier Saratoga a few nights ago. SO to reiterate, they are Sacramento grips. Jeesh, I guess the memory is the first thing to go with age?

I have one nearly identical with the same sights. It has serial #97xxx. Have no idea the year as I also picked it up at a gunshow 6 or 7 years ago.

Nice find, I would say this was made in 1976 the front pinned sight shrouds were on the Model 15-2 before the colored sights were used. This would be right after the "Pork Chop" style was dropped.
The checkered grip is a plastic called "Power Wood" you don't see those very often either.
Congrats on a nice find.
