The gun dates to early 1975. The grip dates from probably 1978 or 79. The early 15-2 grips had no medallions. The front sight is not interchangable if that is the original shroud. The interchangable front sight started about serial number 75,000. Also that is when the colored inserts started. Before that the front sight was black. The front sight on your gun looks decapitated. It is held in by a roll pin.
Thank you 3ric. I was trying to emulated my hero Snake-eye, a master of brevity. 😉. DaPutster, if in fact it is the original shroud and has been filed down or broken off you can replace it with the more modern interchangable sight with the colored insert of your choice. You would need to knock out the roll pin with the appropriate punch, put the new sight in the slot and mark the sight where the roll pin is. Bore a hole for the roll pin a d it will work like the original. The interchangable sights don't have the hole.

Welcome to the forum! 15-2 the backbone of the Dan Wesson! The barrel is a non vent non lug version. They were the lowest priced barrels back then but because not many were sold now they're more rare! I kind of like the look of them now. Back then everyone wanted the biggest heavy barrel a manly man barrel but I like the look. The heavy non vent barrel is even more rare I think but I leave that up to the real experts here on the forum!

I mostly agree. If you want to add a colored front sight, go for it.
However...
The early 15-2's had fixed hard front sights, no color inserts. From the pics you have shared, those do look like originals that have been filed down by a previous owner...grrr! Hopefully it actually shoots to POA!

That is a very early 15-2.
... with a 6" barrel, Standard style shroud and checkered walnut target grips with 'DW' medallion.
to the
Except those grips are wrong, by about 1.3~ish years.
Again, I don't wanna be a stick in the mud/bearer of bad news, BUT where DW facts are concerned, with a gun during this time, this would of had grips devoid of the DW logo...this was in the interim of the old "Powerwood" grips & the more realistic real wood grips. DW caught a lot of heat for the "Powerwood" those months. Shortly afterward the larger "DWA" logos were appropriated. Not long after that, they shortened "DWA" to simply "DW".

So would anyone care to give me an estimated value considering the current condition & features? GunBroker has a pretty wide range in valuation for the 15-2 models posted for sale.
Assuming it's functional and there are no extras, it's a $450-500 gun.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
Or you an do what 2/3s of Gunbroker sellers do. Put a price on the gun far beyond it's value and wait a year or three for appreciation to make it sellable. Then you can be rude to prospective buyers who call you and offer less than it is worth. The only indication of value obtained from Gunbroker are actual auctions that have been completed.
