Shoot, that is probably the matte nickel finish. I know it was available as an option, but I don't think it was for very long. Maybe only a year or two.
The "10D14-M" stamped on the frame is something I haven't seen before. No idea what the significance is, and it doesn't seem to have been punched from the same set of tools that punched the s/n. Makes me wonder if it was done after it left DW.
Cimarron, that's a really cool find, thanks for sharing the Did this come with a Pac case? The gun looks like it's in pretty darn good shape.

Another interesting thing about your gun is that yours has the highest s/n that I've seen thus far, still under the crane. It wasn't very long after yours was made when they moved the s/n outside in plain view. This is still a model 14...
By #27610, they were now into the 14-1 model, with the fixed rear sights.
Little tidbits like that are things I find interesting, in a collector's sort of way.

Yep, up to 14 all in one year. I was president of "gun of the month" club there for a while. I'm cooling down a bit now. Just passed up a 14-2 SS and a D-11 in the last couple of weeks on GB. I typed in my bid on the D-11 and then deleted it. Someone bid on the D-11 for $375 in the last 15 minutes and he was the only bid...... maybe someone on here? I've got a picture of all 14 guns in one shot but it's just guns, no background view so it's not too impressive. May post it one day when I'm in the mood. For me posting a picture is a job I don't enjoy.
