Hello to all. First post on this forum as well as a brand new member. I have had this DW Model 14 for 45 plus years but don't know much about it. I am not firearm savvy but lately have trying to collect knowledge about handguns and this DW specifically. Seems this Forum is the premiere place to learn about all things DW....thanks.
I recently moved to Arizona from California and as a result of the AZ gun laws my interest in handguns has gone up. I don't think the DW 14 is the best choice for concealed carry so trying to decide if I should sell it or just keep it for home protection. Looking for your comments on the viability and worth on the model 14. Going to try and post pics...thanks in advance.[Image Can Not Be Found]

Interesting how often that happens with California transplants. Once freed from California's tyrannical rule, it's like...WOW, there's a whole new world out there! Thopper, just remember which way to vote when it comes time! California's current ways didn't just happen for no reason, it was the Dem's slow overtaking of common sense, reasoning, and fundamental reality...devolving into the quagmire it is currently shown it is today.
BTW, you have a model 14-2 wearing the checkered service grip option. to the Today, there are definitely lighter carry guns out there, maybe relegate your 14-2 to home defense as you suggested, it won't let you down.

My roots are in Ohio....moved to Cali approx. 30 years ago. My vote in California is a waste of time as is vote itself. I am aware that AZ is now considered purple politically, maybe I can insert a tint of red with a vote that will count. The DW will probably stay at home unless there is a better home for it. I am looking at the

Welcome to the DW community. You should definitely keep the DW. It will always be worth more than it is now. It is also a very powerful and accurate handgun. A worthy candidate for home protection, but admittedly not for daily carry. In addition, it is a very nice looking DW.

Welcome to the forum. What part of AZ are you in? I am in New River, AZ just north of Phoenix. I would also keep it! You can always add different grips and barrels! most you can find on eBay or buy them from CZ if you don't mind aftermarket barrels. Original ones CTG would be found on eBay or Gunbroker!

I am in Bullhead City. Bullhead is a funky little town on the Colorado River. Bullhead offers the opportunity for me to do many of the things that I am interested in....off road (UTV), jet skiing, shooting and limited gambling (Laughlin NV across the river). Bullhead is the UTV capital of the west. There is BLM land everywhere which can be used for shooting. All of the above are literally within minutes of my house, Plus there are many like minded folks all around me.

Yup BLM stands for Bureau of Land Management (Government owned land). There are millions of acres of BLM land in western USA....not so much east of the Rockies. The regulations are pretty wide open on BLM land. I forgot that BLM land is not well known across the land and your not the first to comment as such. The Black Lines Matter is new to me but I also like it!

Yea we can shoot on BLM land out here on the outskirts of Phoenix. They have stopped most shooting in Maricopa County but we have BLM land just 3 miles from the house. We had been shooting there for years but the heavy rain for the last 2 years has exploded the grass which is now dead and a huge fire hazard so it's really hard to shoot in our old spot. Add another really wet March this year and this place is a powder keg waiting to explode out here in New River. Bullhead City was a place we always drove thru on the way to Laughlin NV and Casinos. We always went there instead of Vegas that place is no fun anymore it's so crowded and big $$$ to stay. Laughlin was great about 4 hours from New River, AZ but now they have opened 10 casinos or more in the Phoenix area so the drive is no longer made. In the 80's my dad had a Cessna 172 and the Bullhead airport is right across the Colorado river from Laughlin we could fly from Deer Valley Airport (North Phoenix) to there in one hour, take the transfer boat across the Colorado river right to the Casinos! It was great back then, no more Laughlin is crazy crowded also. don't do much gambling anymore except poker on Wednesday's at Talking Stick Casino in Scottsdale. They have great giveaways on Wednesdays every 20 minn they highest winning hand in the poker room get's $250 I won it 3 times in one night a few months ago. You can play at the $4 tables and not lose much unless you try to play every hand!
