I hope what I did wasn't sacrilegious. I found a used set of combat grips for cheap. The seller said they were a factory set but I don't know much about these and they don't have DW medallions so they may be third party for all I know.
As a new owner of a model 14 I wanted something that would be easier to carry my revolver concealed and thought these would do. This is how they looked when I got them:
Unfortunately the grooves were too rough and did not fit my fingers well. I have small/medium sized hands and I think they were designed more for those with large hands. I did some sanding and reshaped the grooves and slightly narrowed the profile, while also rounding out the bottom a little more for better conceal carry.
Grip feels pretty good now and more of what I was looking for. I've been adding a few coats of tru-oil and will finish off with a poly coat. I'll post a picture when done.

Relax and chill. Those are Dan Wesson "Combat" grips, but they are a dime a dozen, so don't worry about your modification. You made them your own and useful for your purpose.

Thanks Stinger. I was a little worried that maybe they were rare. I know original "combat" grips for Smith & Wesson revolvers are going for $100+. I picked these up for $25 which I thought was fair.
You don't plan on selling them, I'd guess. So if they feel good, that's all that matters. They look good !!
SIZE DOES MATTER
Are you calling me a dipwad ? Haha, just kidding. It is not me. Several years ago the combats and Sacramento were bringing more money than the command now. They seem to be about 30 to 45 depending on the grain of the wood. A lot of folks modify them. One day all Dan grips will command big bucks like Colt and Smith grips. The round butt conceal grips have doubled in value recently. Checkered targets are getting pricey too. Zebras still rule though.
If you sand or cut a Zebra you should wear a mask. Like many tropical woods and even black Walnut, the dust can be irritating to mucous membranes.

That looks good... and if it works better for you like that, then all the better. Good job!
