Went back to my local fire house gun show today since I did a rush thru yesterday. I found a good deal on some primers and lightly used dies and then I stumbled across this. Early model 15-2 6 standard barrel 5 digit serial number. Professionally mounted RedDot scope, old style barrel tool, spare DW grip, rear sight, and a nice gun rug. I've often thought about putting a scope on one of my Dan's but never liked the idea of drilling a frame. Now I don't have to. Gun is obviously used but in nice shape, clean and no major marks, bluing is nice all around and the scope has 11 different intensity settings and works well. Think I'll take it and the .22 rifle out tomorrow and try them out. BTW $325 out the door.

Yea, it is a bit bulky and kinda ugly with that on there. I was actually thinking about parting that thing out at first but have changed my mind it think. I'll know after I shoot it. I may just move the RedDot off it and keep the gun. The smith that did the work did a nice professional job with the install, looks very good. I even got the receipt for that work along with the gun. I've got to check the serial number registry, this is an early Dan, only 5 digits in the Monson number.
Like I said in the other thread about that show, I didn't even intend to buy one gun let alone two, but I just couldn't walk past that deals. I'll post some range results soon.
What I observed, even at that small show, the tactical stuff was selling well but antiques, hunting rifles and revolvers were stagnant. I felt like a salmon swimming upstream, everyone else is looking tactical, I was going old school.

Serial number has me confused, 674XX looks like 1976-77, but farther down the list I see a 5XXXX listed as 1978. Am I missing something?
Since the Registry list is comprised both from sales invoice dates & other literature that would come with a new gun, I think that 5xxxx gun may have been a sales receipt entry. The new gun may have sat in the gun store for a year or so before it finally sold. Just a guess.
Congrats on your latest score, your luck is on fire lately!

This is correct, there are some glitches in some of the date sequences. That 1978 is clearly a one off that is out of the general sequence
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
