Ok you jackwagon you totally skipped the new memeber intro but you saved

your self with cool-pics on your first post ! Was that whippinghard enough?

roflroflrofl.

Seriously though, whats your question ? You have a model 15 with a 4 inch

vented shroud, also known as a 15 V4, a unique set of grips with no

medallions and one of the better bluing jobs.

That is actually a Model 15-2 with a 4V Barrel Assembly, manufactured in 1977.

Condition is very good, although it looks like someone (maybe?) hit the grip with some kind of high gloss finish.

Welcome to the Forum.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Welcome - nice looking piece you picked up there.  I'm not so sure about the grips if they are original from the factory or not.  Most have the DW medallions but I have seen this type before in the market.  Maybe some of the others will know.  Put on a nice set of zebras or a custom grip from LB and it will look great!.

Here's a picture of an earlier 1977 grip (and I KNOW it's a 1977 grip):

I also have a grip very similar to yours that I bought somewhere, I think yours was a transition from mine into the medallion grip.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

I'm pretty sure your grips are factory. From what I've noticed, with one exception prior to the 15-2 & approximately the first 18 months or so after they introduced that model, they didn't use medallions in the grips. They did offer about a half dozen styles, but none had medallions. I've got a couple from that general era, with a different style in the checkering.

The exception is that previous to these, they offered a line of "powerwood" grips, which were plastic made to look like wood. Those had a small plastic silver coated medallion with a "W". The silver coating seems to come off easily, so I believe the non-medallion grips like yours were probably used during the transition period while they were looking for a suitable medallion material to use.

Here's a comparison of one of the powerwood style medallions to a later one.

Trust me its has been fired. I got my Dan for around $300 with the original box and tools plus two barrels 2v 6v for around $350.(But take into consideration that the barrels go for almost as much as the total gun payment its self on eBay most of the time) But a very nice v4. I have been trying to get my hands on a 8inch vented or non vented.cool-pics

welcome Looks like you got a real nice DW. Congrats.  FWIW, blued 15's pop up on our local pages for anywhere from 350-500 here in AZ.  Although, most that I see listed aren't that clean.

Nice 15-2, that being said, did you get any extras with it?  If not head over the EWk site and grab some truly cool tools and extras, then pop on the LB site to find the best hand made DW grips this side of the world (or any side for that matter)!    A big welcome to this place!  Price will vary by location!  I would say shoot it , what it is made for!   Keep us posted and yes the grips are factory!
