First pic is of my 2 DW's. Top one is a 5 digit S/N Monson and the second is a 6 digit Monson. Differences I see are the hammers, newer one (bottom picture) has a threaded hole with bolt in it from the inside of the trigger guard, slightly different machining of the cylinders, and the newer one has a purplely blueing on the frame but not on the rest of the gun.
Can anyone inform me as to the cause of the purplely blueing and the purpose of the threaded hole on backside/inside the trigger guard?

Ill try. the purple (we call it Barney) is a result of the casting process. Some models as well as some other guns turn a purplish hue over time. It only effects the cast parts and not the forged parts. It doesn't hurt anything other than the look. The threaded hole is for a trigger over travel stop screw. Some models had it on the trigger and some on the frame. I do not remember which one came first. I hope this answers your questions. If not others will be along who are more knowledgeable than I.

The trigger overtravel as part of the trigger was the earlier style, the one in the frame is later. If you have just a threaded hole, the overtravel screw is missing
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.
