We all know about the brass DWA and DW grip medallions, but who can tell me more about the silver inserts with stars ?

They are an aftermarket product. I do not believe they were ever OEM. They are half the size of the medallions we are used to. Of course I am wrong about half the time also.

That makes sense. I have a grip that came on my Nickel 14 that has those inserts and like you say, they are half the size, so would not fit in the OEM size hole.  They also have vertical serrations cut the length of the backstrap, which I have never seen on a Dan.

Some of the early grips did have a smaller medallion, However I "thought" they were a little different than the star medallion. Once again I am commonly mistaken.

The Numrich website I got the image from lists the medallions as "Aftermarket".

As you may have noticed the "new" after market grips do make a nice replacement for the older "W" medallions that were commonly found on the fake wood grips as with the concealed carry size pictured and the full size. I ruined one trying to clean up the grip but later replaced the with a set of these. They just snap in.
