Yeah im stoked.
the same guy has another 4.
2 38specials and another 715s with 6" barrel (whick im thinking i might buy that too) and a 709.
i have the 715fb with the gap huge so my thoughts are rather than send it off to be corrected, just buy the other 715 and change the barrels over and make my original gun a changeable barrel unit? i assume that the threads would be the same size, and i know the pin for the barrel shroud has already been drilled and a pin sheared off (shouldnt be too hard to remove that) that will give me spares if needed later on too.
thought about the 38specials too, just for the barrel and shrouds (4") i assume that the barrels are the same? and did they really make a smaller cylinder for the 38s?
anybody know?

Yes, the .38 Spl guns were chambered specifically for .38, and will not chamber .357.
This was probably done to attract Police Department business, back in the day that US PD's, especially in large metropolitan areas, felt the need to caliber limit the capability of officers firearms in order to reduce potential liability.
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Definitely not original. The screw that retains the cylinder release is a VERY small screw. I notmally use a jewelers/eyeglass screwdriver

Yeah,
our hardware stores are very different from the sounds of it.
now if i could put a wooden dowl in it i could be ok but a small machine threaded screw....not likely. i needed to get some side plate screws a while ago- had to get our Brisbane manager to pick them up for me from a shop down that way (700klm away). looks like this could be on the cards again.
got to find a gp100 rear sight spring too! that sould be fun.
Dave_Ks this is the 715fb. the 15-2 i only picked up Saturday.

My 715 has a screw like yours, can't say if it was original or not, as I purchased mine previously enjoyed, but it works. Most of my Dan's have a screw like this. On the parts break down it is shown as #23 latch retaining screw. Numrich has them.
good luck.

Thanks for that. It works dont get me wrong but i noticed that the ejector rod tip fouls on it and i can only imagine that in a speed event ejecting (quickly and cleanly) the cases might be a problem. only assuming at this stage. the plan is to get it either reblued or painted with Cerakote so i will get it all sorted before thats done.

i found this link (i would think most would have) and it looks like it should be a roll pin going into the crane to hold the crane latch in place. was there changes inbetween with some screw some pin?????

I believe the early models 14s and 15s or before had a roll pin. The dash 2 era all have screws. Someone with the pork might can verify that.

I did have one -2 gun with a roll pin, I always guessed that someone lost the screw and replaced with a roll pin. Every one I have pulled apart in that area has had the very tiny screw, however.
