Looks like a 14-2 to me with possibly a power wood (plastic, imitation wood) grip on it. As to value, $450 sounds about right depending on condition, accessories if any, part of country etc. I'd say you got a decent deal on what looks to be a nice condition 14-2. You already know it shoots very well so enjoy it! Shop ebay or gunbroker etc for some different grips if you desire something nicer or better suited to ccw. I really like the Pachmyr finger grippers.

Nice find, I like pawn shops. That's where I found my Stainless fixed barrel Palmer. My brother found (through me!) a model 14 at another pawn shop as well.

+P indicates a higher pressure load than standard. You can shoot a 38+P in a 357 but watch shooting +p loads in any gun not rated for it. Ruger warns against using +P loads in the .380 LCP. I don't worry about my Dan's they are one of the most robust revolvers out there.

It has to do with case capacity. Given the same load of the same powder in the same cases with the same bullets, simply seating the bullet a little deeper will cause a large increase in pressure. +P loads are usually 'hotter' with more powder in the case also.
