We went to the first one and started looking around. I wasn't really looking for anything in particular, just lookin' and seein' what the prices were. When one guy asked "What are ya lookin' for?" all I said was "Somthin' shiny that catches my eye!"
Well, one more booth over, it happened. Shimmering under a thin plate of clear glass was this Dan Wesson. Looking like a trophy large-mouth bass wearing a Hougue grip, I could make out its shape and size but couldn't really see all the details. I could go on to say that at this point, all I had to do was lure the owner into thinking I was the best guy to carry her home, but in fact, IT was the one luring me in, its red tag drawing me ever closer to the glass. Then, before I could divert my eyes, I felt a sharp tug! It had already sunk it's snelled cylinder into my wallet! I COULDN'T get away!
That small strand of string on that red tag must have been 2000lb test or something 'cause there was NO way I could pull back from the case. It held me with a price that would make any enthusiast throw back one of his other prized posessions. Once we got it in the boat, we could see that there were some blemishes on this baby. Someone had rubbed the ejector wheel against the side of the frame a few times, makin' her more of a striped bass and she was dirtier than a catfish's mouth. But, she came with a 2.5" heavy and a 4" barrel, a small wood grip, a Hogue rubber grip and the tools to swap 'em all. Plus, there was the original foam box and wrapper to keep em all in!
I finally swallowed the worm when he stated $205! I cast out my wallet only to find out that I needed to go back to shore to get to an ATM. He agreed to keep her in the net until I returned. Which I did almost immediately. Altogether, I think I got a good deal and I'm looking forward to shooting my new Model 22 Dan! I'm
Now, I KNOW that so, here she is!

Yup, two bells and a five dollar tip! I couldn't pass it up. Been looking at DW 22s on GB and was actually following a few. Then this came up. I'm not sure on dating it or cross-referencing serial numbers but it's number 26XX. Only four digits. Is that normal or low? Gotta do some google-fu on it tonight but I'll welcome any insights from the most knowledgeable group on DWs.
Thanks!

If there are no letters in front of that number, then it's one of the early Monson 22's, probably around 1980. One of your barrel assemblies isn't original to the gun, is there a label on one end of the styrofoam box? That should tell you which one is original.
And as these guys said, you really pulled off a with this one, way to go!!

Thanks Charger Fan. I wondered about that number. There is definitely no letter designation in front of it.
Yup, it says the 4-incher is the original. Looking over the gun, it obviously hasn't had the term "LNIB" used to describe it for some time. I want to take it out and shoot it to see how it operates and then make my final decisions.
I'm one of those weird folks who like guns that are "workers", you know, the ones that you don't have to worry about little scratches and such. But then, after I get attached to 'em, I start thinking that they deserve a nice, new shade of blue. Maybe Hotbluer type of stuff. I have another model 15 shroud I'd like to send to him so maybe I'll just use a little bigger box.
First, to see how it shoots. Then maybe a re-blue, then, maybe something from EWK, then...

C5- Two comments:
1) Your Original Post was sheer poetry
2) You hooked the BIG FISH on this one, that is a dream deal
3) OK- third comment, you got the Bad! Real Bad!
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

A little off subject, but the thing I really like about having the .22, is that when I'm working with a new shooter, we can start with the 722 4VH, then go to the 715 4VH with .38 wadcutters, then mid range .357's, and it's really just the same gun.
Same kind of deal with auto's- Ruger SR22 and S&W 59 in 9mm are functionally identical, then the 1911.
But mostly, I shoot a LOT of .22lr. Local private club, members have a key to access when we want to, and it's $125/year target supplied. There's always a .22 in a lockbox in my trunk.

Don't know if it's a sickness or what, but I've actually thought about putting a little bit of $$$ into the little girl. It shoots okay, but she's got some freckles on her that only a re-blue could cure. Been thinking about sending a barrel to Blue Ridge and now I'm considering sending the barrel, this gun and both of the 22 bbls along to get a touch-up. I know that it'll add to the overall cost of the gun, but I'm not thinking about re-sale. All my knock-around guns have turned into fine-shootin' examples sooner or later.
I'd like to get a new cylinder stop (Bolt) for it, since this one has some obvious wear. Maybe Blue Ridge might be able to rectify that while they have it? Has anyone had them do a re-blue for them? I know that they did a lot of the bluing for DW early on, so the quality of the blue is there. Just wondering if I need to disassemble anything, or, is there any issues with shipping the gun to them for the re-blue? I'm a non-FFL.
Thanks for any info!

C5-
-Mark at Blue Ridge can also do repairs, and he has some parts on hand
-To and from an established repair facility does not require an FFL
- As Walt noted, Mark will need some direction on how much work you want done ("Fluff and Buff" or "Frame Off Restoration"). When I had my 15-2 Nickel done, I told them I wanted everything perfect, every nick, ding, and scratch fixed, etc. More money but worth it to me (still!).

Thanks guys!
I took her out to the range on Saturday with the 4-inch bbl installed and it shot great. Tomorrow night I'm going with the missus to "ladie's night" at a local range. They've got a shop there as well so, we might do some comparing. If the wife likes the gun, she might just keep it as a night-stand accessory. If not, it looks like it'll be headed to Hotbluer for some clean up. I just ordered a bolt from Paulpopcorn so i'll check that out as well before I send it anywhere. Either way, it'll make a nice little addition to the family. I'm liking it and my 11 year old son REALLY likes it too.
He and I were going over some of my other revolvers and he really likes the deep, shiny blue on my Colt Trooper, Three-screw SBH Ruger 44 and DW Model 15-2. I've read all the posts on re-bluing guns and their value but, what's important to me with this gun is it's value to me. I think it's worth a little nip and tuck.
Now that I've found out that the shrouds will interchange between the 357s and the 22s, I just need a few barrel tubes to make it a full-on pack!
