You can see he's heavy used by previous owners but he shoots fine and I am cool with it ...

That's what I thought you were saying.  That would be a cool idea if you had inserts for the cylinder like the .22 Hornet con version for the .445 SuperMag that was posted here a while back.

Maybe we can get Eric @ EWK to start making conversion kits.  I'd love to have a .22 Hornet conversion kit.  Eric -- are you listening?

Thanks for posting the pictures, that .22 barrel setup is something I've never seen before.

Frankly, your case is easily the wildest one we've ever seen, that might be easily fixed with some new fabric.

I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Hmmmm.. I didn't thought that this barrel was rare in the US - anyway here, I don't know any other either ....

For US citizens the .22 Hornet should be a great thing. But in the Netherlands, this caliber is a no-go. For .22 matches, there's only .22LR allowed, and the big calibre matches starting from 7,65 caliber. Also for Hunting in the Netherlands it is prohibited : a handgun isn't allowed, and for a rifle the .22 Hornet has not enough power to hunt here .... rules, rules, rules wink

For me an insert for .22LR at the cilinder should be great!

I've dabbled in pellet conversions for 9mm and 357...  Strange things happen when you travel the world...

Too bad no one sells stuff like that here.  Think of this:

Take your 445 SM to the range

Include the following conversion kits:

  1. 357 SM
  2. 357 Mag
  3. 32 Mag
  4. 327 FM
  5. 22 Hornet
  6. 22 Mag
  7. 22 lr

Shoot the heck out of everything and all you have to clean are the adapter kits and one gun, not 8 guns.

What fun that would be. big-grin

@ rwsem & Zoommb - If I can't find the insert in Europe, I can ask a gunsmith to make them for me, for sure the DW will shoot .22LR in the future!

@ ese927 - Yes, nice isn't it? If I let restore the case, probably I will let make it a deep blue or red velvet but without that 60's / 70's pattern in it ;-)

Ron beat me to it, but that is actually a pellet firing adapter.  Machined 357 cases take a primer in one end and a 22 cal pellet in the neck...:)

That is a very unique arrangement you have.  I can understand the need for one given your gun restrictions.  I think Ron and Shoot have given you excellent information and I'm amazed at the depth of Ron's knowledge, I'm humbled.  Good luck with your project and keep us 'in the loop' as to how it turns out.

Indeed : that's the 'Gold Series' - actually I bought the gun and barrels seperately:

  • First I had the 'Gold series' Frame and barrel in 6" but the barrel tube wasn't 100% anymore.
  • Later, I bought the extra barrels including the case. I guess the extra barrels are not from a 15-2 but model 15 because there are no vents/slots in it.
  • Now, I added the .22 barrel in the old 6" .357er

All of those shrouds are for model 15-2.  A model 15 would look like a pork chop bone.
