Here is my first Palmer gun. This is an 8" 744 VH that came to me out of PA. First impressions are pretty good. I have to say the cylinder lockup and rotation are tighter than any of my other Dans. There are a few spots that need a touch of the scotchbrite pad, but she looks pretty good. I'll try and take her apart this weekend for a good scrubbing. These pictures are of the gun as she came to me. Enjoy!

Here are a few pics of my little sis at the range this weekend. My brother and sister in law were in town so we all went to the range one afternoon.
Here's sis playing with the new 44. She really handled it well.
Of course she wanted to try the PMDP.
We all had a good time. Nothing like a little family bonding at the gun range.

Here are the twins. I took both of them down to the nuts and bolts this afternoon. The Monson gun was a lot cleaner in terms of machining on the inside. I had to clearance the catch on the Palmer gun to get it to release and hold in the frame. I'm positive it hadn't been apart since new.
Calendar worthy, or do I need a more flattering backdrop?

Here's the latest set of grips from LB. This is his LB Special crafted out of a piece of Lignum Vitae. It's great to have someone with LB's skills making grips for our Dans.
Lignum Vitae is the world's densest wood, weighing in at almost 80lbs per cubic foot when dry. I'll have to put this grip on the scale at home to compare it to a standard DW grip. The colors have a cameleon effect. Depending on the background the wood turns from olive to deep brown. I'll post some other pictures once I get her mounted.

That's a good looking pair! I think that shot would make a good calendar submission.
Here's a post that could be taken WAY out of context, depending on what calendar we're talking about.
Forgive me tonite for some Knob Creek inspired silliness, tomorrow is my first day off work (I hope) in about eight weeks
Maybe gonna make some ammo tomorrow
I went to a bookstore and asked the saleswoman "Were is the Self Help Section?" She said if she told me, it would defeat the purpose.

Here's the Palmer 744 with the new production 4VHC assembly. The more I mess with this gun the more I realize that it's going to need to go at some point. I'll have to find a Monson or Norwich 744 to replace it.
Things that aren't perfect:
- The face of the receiver where it mates to the shroud is not machined properly, in other words it's not a flat face. The shroud makes contact on a high spot.
- I had to take a significant amount of material off of the retaining lug on the trigger housing for it to release and hold in the frame.
- The hole for the rear sight roll pin is just slightly too far forward causing the rear sight to bind.
So, at some point I'll find a deal on another 744 and this one will be put up for sale. But she still shoots just fine.

So if it were mine... file the face flat so the shroud fits better, then "wallow" the rear sight out so it wont bind in the frame (not the frame hole, but the sight hole). Even if I would decide to sell it, the new owner would be happy with it and I could sell it in good faith, knowing there are no issues.
Technically, the glass is always full; half liquid, half air....
