I have a .357 magnum Dan Wesson revolver but having a difficult time identifying the model. It was made in Monson, Mass and has a 6" barrel, serial number is 86xxx. I believe it was purchased in the early 1980s but not sure, might have been manufactured in the late 1970s? There are no DW badges on the grips so I'm guessing it was before they started adding them to the revolvers. Hoping someone can help me identify the model and a general time frame when it was made. Hopefully the photos will make it clear but if not please let me know what other information is needed. Thanks for any help that can be provided!

You can figure out what model your next DW is by checking here. Looking forward to your introduction in the new members section.

Thanks to everyone for helping me identify this revolver! Now I can start searching for a holster that will fit this Dan Wesson perfectly and keep it safe while I backpack through PA bear country. It was handed down to me from my grandfather and has a great deal of sentimental value, we spent a lot of time target shooting and these are wonderful memories from my childhood. I want to honor how he kept the 15-2 in fantastic shape by keeping it protected as much as possible, would like to pass it on to the next generation in the same condition that I received it. I know he would have liked that.

Ole Dog is right. I don't leave any guns in boxes, cases, or holsters because of moisture damage. But there is nothing worse on bluing than the old in and out of a holster. How many guns have you seen that look perfect except with the muzzle end and the leading edges of the cylinders worn. I've seen hundreds of revolvers that haven't seen a 100 rounds downrange that look like that were heavily used because of the holster wear.
