It's been a long time coming. I flew in the left seat of a Cessna 172 today. It's the first time I have done that since 1967. The 172 (T-41a) was the first plane I flew when I was in pilot training at Williams Air Force Base in Chandler, Az. It was like putting on an old pair of tennis shoes. I was surprised how much I remembered. It really brought back memories of long lost times.
The plane owner wanted to go flying on such a pretty day so he let me "drive." He is 73 and I'm 71. We had a great time telling war stories. Every time we tell them they get bigger and better.
Just wanted to share a great day for a couple of old timers.

Enjoyable it was. Exciting....... well not so much. We flew at about 110 mph at 1500 feet. Actually that is sorta "ho-hum." Exciting is when you can exceed the speed of sound, do spins, loops, inverted, etc. Now that will make your blood pump. Problem is I don't know anyone who has a jet that will let me even near it. I still have dreams on a fairly regular basis when I was in the AF. Some are good and others, not so good.

The one & only time I've been airborne in a Cessna was when I was 14. I was invited to fly by a schoolmate in a family friend's plane...we flew at night. Took off in the old St. George Utah airport, this was sometime in the summer of 1978. My first time flying. At first, it was no big deal...see the purty lights below & all that crap.
A few minutes later, the ride turned into roller-coasters & barrel rolls. I had no idea where the ground was...or the sky, for that matter. Gladly, I never had to use a barf bag that night...and I haven't tried to repeat that event even once since then.

Speaking of barf bags. We carried a barf bag in our leg pocket just in case. I never used mine but one of my classmates threw up 12 straight flights in the T-37 phase of training. He washed out after the last barf. He forgot his bag and used his glove and re-decorated the cockpit. His instructor made him clean up the airplane.
I never got air sick but I have been plenty sea sick. That's another story and it ain't pretty.

Can you share what you fly? PM?
My cousin was a corporate pilot but gave that up when he became an A & P mechanic. He said when he flew that he would fly for free. They paid him for the time he spent on the ground.
There is never an aircraft that goes over my house that I don't stand and watch until it goes out of sight. Airplanes and women have some of the most beautiful curves ever. Then again the A-10 is pretty ugly.

I did most of my flight training in a Cherokee 180 and a Cessna 172. One of my favorite things was to take off and head out over Lake Maumelle as dusk approached. I had a pair of earbuds under my headset, and I'd listen to music and just.... fly.
Wouldn't it be great if all wars could be fought just by the a-holes who started them?
