I guess the DWF Outdoors forum is as good as any place to post this. This evening my wife and daughter were on our way home from dinner and decided to drive around a few neighborhoods looking at houses and lots for sale. This particular neighborhood was up on the side of a mountain, very wooded. On the way out we spotted this black bear. This is the first time I've ever seen on in the wild. (Sorry for the bad mobile phone picture!)

Very cool though I have seen reported that in some areas in the east they have actaully re-populated to the point of becomming a problem. Seems modern life (dumpsters) agree with them...

Even though the photo is a little fuzzy, you can tell some things about the bear. This one actually look to be good sized between 125 and 175 lbs. If you look at the lower part of the bear, the stomach area, it is not hanging down so it is probably fairly young between 1 1/2 and 2 1/2 years old. One more judging point is looking at the ears. In this photo we can't see the ears, but if he has Micky Mouse ears, that would also be a sign of a young bear, but if the ears look small, that would be a older bear.
I wonder if shooting this bear would count towards the target shoot for next month???
Nice photo

That's pretty neat to see, can't say I've actually seen a bear in person...yet. One bad thing is that since human development is now encroached into the bear's territory, there will be many more sightings once those homeowners move in. Sadly, they will probably not understand why the bears are there & will call animal services to 'take care' of the problem.
The land was the bears' land & we humans are the "illegals".
I sorta have a similar problem where I'm at, but luckily they're animals with smaller teeth & claws. Im my case, we have antelope...here's a shot I took along the rodside a couple years ago, as I headed for work.I'm doing about 40 BTW...
